@thekyleyates Agreed--they definitely go hand in hand. To me, compassion is the Christ-like end of empathy. In Greek oiktirmos and eleos are the words translated to compassion and are usually translated as mercy.
@randall_wins@BlinnBeth@richvillodas I can only speak to my own experience. Most of my changes in political perspective comes from studying scripture. I get the frustration that comes from people justifying political perspectives by looking for justification in scripture.
@ZachWLambert I didn't take Hebrew (yeah, I'm one of those Greek only mDivs). But, my understanding is that most of the "made them male and female" like Gen 5:2 is the singular 'adam'. Which probably is like, 'humanity', but it makes me laugh every time to think of Adam as "male and female".
@DPGBehler I mean, there is a second creation story right after the Genesis 1 version. That is just in Genesis not to mention the other references to creation. The Bible reveals glimpses of the divine.
@XAVIAERD He had his back to them while trying to move someone away, they grabbed him from behind, they disarmed him, they engaged him with lethal force while he was disarmed. Thereโs no justification.
@razorfist Or weird that excessive force is used in a state where so few arrests are being made. Weird that an ICU nurse trying to deescalate a situation (he was facing a civilian on the ground trying to move them away) when he is attacked from behind, beaten, tried, judged, + executed
@TheOnlyDSC I called out the assassination of Charlie Kirk by a civilian. I canโt believe that the actions of a civilian are your justification for state sponsored executions of innocent civilians.
