As Red Cross teams support communities affected by devastating wildfires in France and Spain, the need to invest in preparedness and climate adaptation has never been clearer.
"This is the pattern we are seeing more and more across Europe: heatwaves, drought and wildfires feeding into one another, and communities bearing the consequences." Maria Alcázar Castilla, @IFRC Deputy Regional Director for Europe
Communities cannot face this crisis alone. Investing in local preparedness today will help save lives tomorrow.

The Red Cross and Red Crescent emblems are meant to protect people helping others. Under international humanitarian law, they are recognized as symbols of neutral and impartial humanitarian action. Any attack against these emblems, or against the people who wear them, is unacceptable.
The protection of humanitarian workers is not optional. It is essential to saving lives.
One year ago, eight medics from the Palestine Red Crescent Society @PalestineRCS were killed on duty in Gaza.
They were responding to wounded people, they were humanitarians dedicated to saving lives. Their ambulances were clearly marked; their red uniforms should have protected them.
One life lost is far too many. We must #ProtectHumanity.
One year after this tragedy, the ask remains the same: Humanitarian workers must be protected.
Our thoughts are with their loved ones and our colleagues at @PalestineRCS who continue to risk their lives to save others.
