The Red Cross and Red Crescent emblems are meant to protect people helping others. Under international humanitarian law, they are recognized as symbols of neutral and impartial humanitarian action. Any attack against these emblems, or against the people who wear them, is unacceptable.

The protection of humanitarian workers is not optional. It is essential to saving lives.

One year ago, eight medics from the Palestine Red Crescent Society @PalestineRCS were killed on duty in Gaza.

They were responding to wounded people, they were humanitarians dedicated to saving lives. Their ambulances were clearly marked; their red uniforms should have protected them.

As needs continue to evolve, the @ifrc network remains fully mobilized to support affected communities in Iran.

Through an allocation of 1.5 million CHF from @IFRC_DREF, immediate resources are being made available to reinforce emergency health services and ensure timely humanitarian assistance.

Working in close coordination with the @Iranian_RCS, this operation will support 200,000 people over nine months, strengthening response capacity and sustaining lifesaving services where they are needed most.
