@Canellelabelle Climbing these peaks and feeling the wind on her face would have felt extra special after being inside and enduring all those cancer treatments.
@RadioFreeTom The opposite is true in Australia. Come winter, you really feel the fact that the homes haven’t been designed for the cold. You suggest double pane windows, no gaps, and some sort of heating . “Oh, we don’t need that here.” Yes, you do! (Chilled to the bone here in June!)
@OrevaZSN It’s ok to cook the same meal two nights in a row. Or cook the two meals and alternate the nights if you don’t want them he same thing two nights in row. It cuts down on decision fatigue, and works out that for that second meal, some of the prep is already done.
Folks if your kid ever asks you to sit with them while they go to sleep out of the blue, please just sit there and shut up. If the same kid starts to protest when you start to stand up please just sit back down. That kid is mustering the courage to communicate something. Wait. There is a need on the other side of that long wait. Often kids wait til it’s dark and late and you’re half asleep absentmindedly patting their head to say the thing they need to say. This has been true enough times in my parenting journey to notice the pattern across several kids. If you think they’ve lost the nerve and the silence sits too heavy, ask the question. Make it easy to answer.
“Hey kiddo do you need anything?” is a safe entry.
“Can I do anything for you?” isn’t too abrupt.
@realFishchaser@Aeroengineer1@Delta@flyLAXairport My plane got stopped on a runway & had to return to a gate because someone “thought they saw smoke on the wing” & then someone else “thought they smelled smoke”. Condensation on the wings & the mechanical smell were all normal. Everyone thinks they’re an expert these days. 🙄
@topnobau@fjzeit You’re brave to mention double glazing. Anytime I do, I get pounced on for extravagance. Australians seem to like their cold winter homes!
@Grimezsz It is a thing. It’s all over Instagram. Governments are starting to take notice as well. Australian government has a new campaign on perimenopause. (I’ve not yet seen one on menopause.)
@ClassicsofRome The other thing is, America preserves some of its towns… so picturesque. Australia is moving through beautiful old homes at an alarming rate for ugly towers… it’s so depressing. South Carolina is beautiful… not to mention how gorgeous Hilton Head is.
@PeterPolites@commannand Seemingly in that area. I’ve been over Darling Square way and the place was hopping after dark. I was like, so this is where everyone is!
@commannand@PeterPolites I think it’s gone now… the Verona in Paddington. We tried a restaurant and a pub where the kitchen closed before 9. Ended up at the takeaway shop, grabbing a mango lassi.
@joyeberebe@ThrillaRilla369 I didn’t get to be a mom, but as an adult, I totally understand it now. I did caregiving for my dad, and self-care is a must or you’ll go mad. Though I have to hide the snacks on myself or I eat them all at once!
