@eric_seufert They're grafting an alien brain onto human-centric modalities in search of product-market fit. They don't need to do all of these things well to succeed in their ultimate aim.
@eric_seufert The idea of agentic shopping with respect to advertising IMO points more toward the evolution of retail media and really the entire retail experience than to the idea of personal shopping agents b/c of the conflict you mentioned.
@eric_seufert To your point, any consumer agent will work to minimize cost given some well-defined preferences; discoverability and product info for algos > ads in this UX. Any retailer agent will work to maximize GMV/cLTV a la concierge shopping; ads could evolve to play a role here I think.
@jonathanmendez Agreed and I think the breakage might be in the leap from basic resolution of 1P data to a unified record of behaviors across channels, given many of those events happen in channels that do not share that data. Or are you saying they weren't even resolving their 1P touchpoints?
@jonathanmendez Might be that the largest media platforms can onboard audiences directly (dont need 3P ID resolution) and these same platforms don't share user-level data back. If your site analytics is already hooked to your 1P channel personalization tool/s, CDPs start looking over-featured...
@eric_seufert Exactly. This will feel a lot like a text-based display ad beckoning the user with another prompt that drives to some branded experience. LLMs may be particularly suited for this because it's all token predictionโwhat would the user ask next? Who wants to pay to be there?
@eric_seufert If mostly prompts or full-ish questions, then it is also likely to be non-brand vs brand where CTRs are traditionally low. If they can increase CTR from e.g. 1% to 10% due to higher relevance then $50 CPM = $5 CPC on GOOG turns into $0.50 on Perplexity.
@eric_seufert Key difference may be in the share of Perplexity's total rolling search volume that has never been seen before. If Google's ~15% but Perplexity's is >90% because of how people prompt vs KW search, then CPMs could be arguably more appropriate.
@mikeryanretail Thanks for sharing this! The plain language they use in the consent wall makes one wonder whether they feel confident enough in acquiring a truth set of consented users sufficient enough for their modeled attribution to function as designed...
@JamesBorow@shaneoleary1@Snapchat@Pinterest@Shopify IMO any media platform with scaled authenticated user bases lacking onsite commerce will need to partner with retailers to bring in the transaction flow, a la Meta<>Snap, Meta<>Amazon.
This is a great paper for those working on third-party Web tracking and who's willing to understand how companies get prepared for the phasing out of third-party cookies! ๐

@amitgoel1287 I imagine the scale of this problem will be limited to retailers' opt-out traffic. For any consented users, they could opt to use PPIDs. I am not up to date but if privacy sandbox is being treated as another demand source in mediation then it should just net out in yield mgmt.
