That's the issue in this Presidency, everything is based on lies, even the most trivial of things.
“They never wanted to end cancel culture. They wanted to control it. Some forbidden ideas - the ones MAGA likes - must be protected and platformed. Other ideas - the ones Bari Weiss dislikes - are genuinely verboten. Say them out loud and you lose your job.”
Have you noticed that our political campaigns are almost completely devoid of ideas? No arguing over the size and scope of government. No arguing over America’s role in the world. It’s all personalities, “vibes,” and memes. Our political culture has been badly degraded. Its perfect symbol is that grotesque “cage” on the White House lawn.
This is what happens when the Attorney General of the United States also happens to be the president’s personal lawyer. It’s utterly wrong, but Trump can do it because we don’t have a Congress.
JUST IN: Trump administration argues courts lack grounds to halt White House ballroom project even if it was clearly illegal. DOJ attorney also contends no lawsuit could stop Trump from tearing down Statue of Liberty if he wanted to. w/@kyledcheney https://t.co/boxAzjGAEI
NEW: I just introduced an amendment that would block Bill Pulte from being DNI.
If even half of my Republican colleagues that have privately voiced concerns about him vote for this… it should pass.
I bet you didn’t know that Justice Gorsuch cousin sold an acre of land to Russian Oligarch Vladislav Doronin 2022 for $10 million. The same Doronin that the Kushner Albania Island is attached to.
This is remarkable. Trump is giving Pulte, who lacks the statutory qualification (national security expertise) for the DNI job the position so they can manufacture another stolen election charge, or perhaps try to justify halting them altogether. It’s out in the open.
Two things I particularly enjoy:
1) His utter contempt for Trump and his ilk is palpable, but it’s almost apolitical. It’s moral without being preachy. Tough needle to thread.
2) There is a seriousness here that is woefully missing in our politics today.
James Talarico: “The Southern Baptist Convention was pro-choice until the late 1970’s. This idea that to be a Christian means you have to be anti-gay and anti-abortion, there really is no historical theological biblical basis for that opinion”
To all of those whining about artist's dropping out of the Freedom250 concert:
Ten years ago, Congress established the America 250 foundation to plan our nation's 250th birthday celebration and they've been working on it since.
Trump fired them all and set up his own Freedom 250 celebration focused only on highlighting MAGA and his accomplishments.
These artists were told they were performing at the first only to discover they would be appearing at the second.
Cannot say enough about my former NSC colleague @AndyKimNJ’s leadership qualities
His simple, selfless acts speak far louder than most politicians’ preference for posting a few selfies on social
This is amazing.
The New York Times put together a graphic of how much time cabinet members spend kissing up to Trump in meetings.
"On average, at least one of every six sentences either flattered Mr. Trump, gave him credit or criticized his political opponents."
North Korea.
By rejecting vaccines, you put others in danger.
You reject decades of immunology, epidemiology, clinical trials, and real-world evidence involving billions of doses.
You promote the idea that every hospital, university, regulator, and doctor on Earth is part of one giant conspiracy — while viruses, measles, polio, and whooping cough quietly come back.
Vaccines are not perfect.
But pretending infectious diseases disappeared on their own is historically illiterate.
Modern medicine dramatically increased human life expectancy.
The real danger is turning public health into a conspiracy theory.
I don't want to suggest that the fine folks staging the mixed martial arts fight on the White House lawn for the president's birthday are not sticklers for decorum and protocol but their American flag's got 48 stars on it
