@HadrienF2 Regard for Lawrence’s poetry may have increased since his death. The post colonial critiques of Conrad have also kept him alive. I agree about Tarkington. He must have had something to inspire Welles.

@PAHoyeck This is not an anti Nolan/Matt Damon comment but Kirk Douglas did have some of the Odysseus wiliness and moral ambiguity. That’s why Billy Wilder cast him in Ace in the Hole.

Matt Walsh is releasing a film called ‘What is a Linear?’

Nolan's obsessions with the non-linear storytelling gimmick really hurts this film. It jumps around so much, and spends so little time on any one particular moment or scene, that you never really feel like Odysseus is on an epic journey spanning many years. When he makes it home, you never feel like he's been gone for 20 years. The film does not capture the grandeur and scope of the original epic. That's why it feels rushed and too long simultaneously. The movie comes off like a rough draft. Nolan was searching for the actual story but never quite found it.
