@DropTheDie @JeremyECrawford I give my players a feat at level 1 with the stipulation that it has to be thematically appropriate to their background and axe variant human. I let human players pick +1 to 2 abilities of choice, on top of the +1 to all to compensate. I see a lot less humans in my games

The dryad cared nothing for the villagers as their life was a blip compared to the forest she's inhabited since time immemorial.

After recruiting the gnome for themselves, ridding the village of his undead guardians and completing the dryad's task the players found out sessions later the town had been razed to the ground as the villagers could no longer defend themselves.

A gnomish necromancer had taken residence in a village and used animated skeletons to guard the town and perform menial labor. A local dryad tasked the players with disposing of the gnome by any means necessary as all undead are an abomination to nature.
