@TheWharfDC Hello! When are you planning to launch the Jitney this summer? I thought it was usually in the water by now but I could definitely be misremembering. Thanks!
Earthset.
The Artemis II crew captured this view of an Earthset on April 6, 2026, as they flew around the Moon. The image is reminiscent of the iconic Earthrise image taken by astronaut Bill Anders 58 years earlier as the Apollo 8 crew flew around the Moon.
I heard some old friends at @PodSaveAmerica were in town, so I decided to stop by. As we saw this week, we can change this country for the better. But it’s going to take all of us getting organized and having honest conversations about the best way forward.
NEW: NOAA operations slowed by mandate for Commerce Secretary to approve ALL contracts/contract extensions above $100,000. This nearly led to a significant deterioration of Nat'l Weather Service operations last night. https://t.co/Cwduv5prA4
The firings jeopardize our ability to forecast and respond to extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods—putting communities in harm’s way. They also threaten our maritime commerce and endanger 1.7 million jobs that depend on commercial, recreational and tribal fisheries, including thousands in the State of Washington. This action is a direct hit to our economy, because NOAA’s specialized workforce provides products and services that support more than a third of the nation’s GDP.
This is so perfectly written and I'm 100 percent in agreement with @spann regarding the invaluable service that NWS and NOAA provide on an hourly basis. Collectively they are one of, if not the best bang for your taxpayer buck out there.
Tonight I sent a letter to Commerce Secretary Lutnick, urging him to exempt NWS from the federal hiring freeze due to the critical role the agency plays in public safety and supporting the economy, and protect all NOAA employees from firings or reduction in force initiatives that would jeopardize the safety of the American public.
