Some students continue to read. It’s less about phone attractions and more about focus and concentration. What else helps to hone those skills? Writing, based upon reliable/ vetted sources and texts! https://t.co/ECkeyYgupP
"The Last Mughal: This is a personal favourite, because I lived in Delhi for six years as a student. I lived in Old Delhi, near the Red Fort. And The Last Mughal captures that entire decline and fall; with the East India Company coming; taking over the mutiny; you feel very sorry for the old Bahadurshah Zafar. You know, it was circumstances that had overtaken him completely. He was helpless, yet at the same time he was the titular head of the country. And, therefore, he was foisted on to something that he didn’t want, and then exiled to Burma, where he lived. He’s heartbroken because he’s separated from the city that he loved. Imagine all your children being killed and just two sons going with you. Dalrymple brings Old Delhi to life. The book is just not about a palace but the stories; the streets; the markets; the courtesans; everything is brought to life."

What a moment. Billy Crystal and this tribute have set a high bar… All the President’s Men was the first Civics lesson for me. And The Way We Were, what a love story! It was great to see “Babs” and to hear her sing in real time.
Barbra Streisand’s tribute to Robert Redford literally brought me to tears. I did not expect her to break out into song but when she did, it totally broke me. This has been an exceptionally emotional #Oscar night but done with absolute class & thoughtfulness. What a moment.
This striking fresco, known as *Fisherman*, was discovered in the ancient settlement of Akrotiri on Thera (modern-day Santorini) in the Cyclades, Greece 🇬🇷. Dating back to around 1600 BC, it is a remarkable example of Minoan art, showcasing the vibrant culture of the Bronze Age.
The artwork depicts a young fisherman holding two strings of freshly caught fish, his muscular frame and dynamic pose highlighting the skill of Minoan artists in capturing movement and realism. The use of bold colors—deep blues, earthy reds, and stark whites—adds to its visual appeal, while the detailed rendering of the fish emphasizes the importance of marine life in the island's economy.
Preserved by volcanic ash from Thera's catastrophic eruption, this fresco offers a rare glimpse into daily life before the disaster. It reflects the sophistication of Akrotiri’s society, known for its advanced architecture and artistry.
A masterpiece of ancient Aegean art, the *Fisherman* fresco remains a testament to the creativity and resilience of a civilization lost to time.

There was far more mixing than we think or know. Not terribly surprised. The purity that so many aspire to (including my ancestors) was always aspirational (or delusional?). The caste system was championed precisely because of this fear of mixing.
This is a brilliant book, an ethnography of workers in Delhi that is deeply researched as well as beautifully written. Shankar Ramaswami explores the worlds of work, struggle, play and family life with an extraordinary sensitivity. @PermanentBlack@JindalGlobalUNI
Brilliant thread on the Danes. EIC and the VOC were not the only ones following in the footsteps of the Portuguese in India. Europeans in general were always good at “follow the money” & @ finding passages to India = rich resources.
A review of decades of research finds that plastic additives pose a serious threat to children, raising the risk of disability and disease long into adulthood.
Plastics are associated with heart disease, obesity, and asthma, among other issues.
