The greatest lesson running has taught me is the personal growth from putting yourself out there to find out what you're capable of

@nickwillis I went 5+ years without a pain free run, not one. Not because I wasn’t rehabbing or resting. My point is I wouldn’t have raced at the trials if I just didn’t run based on this advise. There are things you should and shouldn’t run through. The key is realizing which are which.
@nickwillis It sounds good on paper, but it’s not realistic. In a 20+ year career, having 13 big setbacks is amazing. 4 years being pain free isn’t just you being smart and taking care of yourself, it’s also luck and body durability. It’s not an insult, just something you should appreciate.
I will officially be competing as a ‘free agent’ at the Olympic Trials.
The day I choose a safety net over the belief I have in myself will be the day I hang up my spikes.
So, if anyone wants to pick me up off the ‘wavier wire’, I won’t let you down😜

ICYMI: Last night, Brandon Doughty (@dodes_xc) ran a steeplechase for the first time in 1,061 days after battling injuries and finished w/ an Olympic Trials Qualifying time.
Anyone who viewed our Talking While Running ep. w/ Brandon would’ve seen this coming!

.@dodes_Xc with the Olympic trials standard and personal best after not competing for 1,061 days. What an inspiration to runners around the world. Perseverance, and finding joy in running even when it’s not always pretty. You earned this bro!
Track fans should show @dkm14 some love, not talk crap - 10.36 is impressive for his size and this is great media attention for our sport
Football fans shouldn’t claim he’d make the Olympics if he lost 75lbs. He’s 22lbs heavier (1” shorter) than Bolt when he ran the WR of 9.58
