@RunBrianDoyle@CoachDistance I would do something very similar (modified from Ben Thomas)- ran 13:19, 7:42, 8:20 (steeple) using it. I was MUCH more prepped for the race than your classic 3 mile + strides
Rope stretch
1 mile easy
Drills
800 threshold
3x100, 1x200m at RP
400m jog.
+ a few short strides
@hunterco@CoachDistance@MikeCunningham Athlete/parent handbook that was passed down to me by my former coach when I took over the program. Very detailed with information on our sport, culture, history, rules, and expectations. It removed so many of the issues I saw other coaches running into.
Don’t give me hope!
Dude retired in 2012 with a 1:46 800m PB and lived an entire life. Got back into it during Covid and is now back running better than ever before.

@sociable_weaver Almost any run influencer I come across calls "speed work" everything but speed work, lol. It's not like they're even doing track specific work. It's threshold, marathon pace, fartleks so on.
@stevemagness I did competitive gymnastics growing up. I always struggled with flexibility, and my coaches were always frustrated with it. My running economy is 185ml/kg/km 🤷♂️.
@WSHSBridgeTrack@CoachDistance Lower volume week with slightly easier threshold and light turn over, resembled more of a base week. We would race 3 weekends in a row. This allowed the kids to recover and absorb. Once I made this switch, we outperformed teams week over week. Hays in the bar, don't burn it down.
"I think I just felt like there was still more to give. If I'm still PRing, why would I let it go if this is something I like to do. If I let it go before I reached my peak, I'd probably look back at it with regret."
Travis Mahoney (@UrbanSteepler) retired and then came out of retirement. Now, he's running better than ever as he heads into his FOURTH Olympic Trials in the steeplechase.

@CoachDistance I think I stole/modified these from @fast8trackclub
400m at opening lap pace in spikes
500-300-200 at mile pace in flats
2x300m cutdown or 4x150m cutdowns in spikes
2x4-5x200m at race pace/slightly faster w/30s in flats
4-5 min between
Spike up-1x400m watchless-smooth and fast
Matthew Wilkinson grabs a five second PB to win the steeplechase at UVA. Nathan Mountain’s 8:20 is a 12 second improvement and Travis Mahoney breaks out of his retirement home for a good one
@bhudgruns Shared training knowledge is a big one. High-quality meets with elites and pacers every single weekend! The shoes, not such much the spikes have helped so much. Athletes can handle a higher workload and recover quicker, keeping a larger number of athletes healthy. (Depth)
