@tumes Whenever my favorite baseball team travels to Cincinnati, the announcers always talk about going to get Skyline Chili. Enough times that I finally cooked myself a recipe for it I found online. It was fine. I did not follow official chili ladeling procedure, though.
@tumes YouTube just suggested this video, which is right in my greasy wheelhouse. I'm sad to learn that the pandemic seemed to be the final nail in their Old Country coffin and they're all closed now: https://t.co/dlU9L024z9
@tumes So this is completely insane. If humanity is nearly wiped out, I hope this training video survives and future developing humans who rise from the ashes use Waffle House code to communicate.
@tumes@BookSpotlight Enjoy your scurvy! If you haven’t seen the AMC series based on the novels, it’s a pretty faithful adaptation and really well done.
Welp, today was my last at Shopify. Not looking forward to a job hunt, but there are worse things than severance and a fresh start. If you’re hiring a Staff Engineer with Go, Kubernetes, and Rails experience (and a desire to put my Rust book learnin’ to practical use), I’m here.
@davidnwelton I'm just hoping that for every day it snows or rains now, there will be an extra few days this summer where it won't be a smoky hellscape.
I used to get most of my tech news from RSS feeds. I replaced that with this site. In some ways that transition was a downgrade, but the algorithm did surface people and tech that I otherwise would have never seen. I wonder what's next?
@Newegg I know you don't do backorders, but maybe you could make an exception for cases where you pretended like an order went through and then later say "Woops, just kidding" after the item is out of stock everywhere. What a joke.
For my weekend of unemployment and being on zero on-call rotations, I’ve been trying all the cool features of my phone I never get to use, like “Do Not Disturb.” Or just turning the damn thing off at night, that’s a neat one.
@davidnwelton Irrigation canal access east of town drives me nuts. It would be such a great route off any roads. I can only think of one very short stretch where access is actually allowed, a few where it’s posted trespassing but totally ignored, and then mostly it’s scary signs.
@davidnwelton They’re in a trailer in the Hampton Inn parking lot. Everything is outside, they swab you under a pop up tent. They have 30 minute appointment blocks and so I don’t think they get swamped.
It is the strangest thing that the Apache HTTP server listens for the WINCH signal to perform a graceful stop. WINCH, as in *WIN*dow *CH*ange.
Run it in a terminal in the foreground, resize your window, and whoopsy, it stops. Still hilarious to me.
