A radiologist who is a clinical wizard among most subspecialties but then, is also an MRI physics wizard, an MRI super user among all vendors, can go into a radiology dept and overhaul protocols, work with MRI techs(and other modalities), monitor quality of various platforms and various systems... pretty much an entity you can't put a price tag on. On flipside, anyone or almost anyone, can be trained to interpret high-quality images. The other stuff is what's really difficult, requires a nuanced skill set that is not easy to acquire and generally not part of training programs. Any rad with that skill set and particularly with a deep MRI physics and tech superuser skill set, is just priceless. Priceless!! Only rads seem to truly appreciate this fact. It amazes me how other specialties think that techs just "push buttons" and there you go!everything(images, procedures) just sort of happen. Hospital administrators often the worst offenders at times (MBA programs don't usually require you to do the inside, low level grunt work we all do day and a day out behind the scenes). I assume this concept is, ditto for pretty much every specialty out there. The assumptions we all make....
