I believe @HNS is one of the best if not the best decentralised DNS community I know of.
It really is decentralised unlike most others dDNS projects in the web3 space. Hats off to the Handshake crew 🤝

@mattgould@ensdomains Perhaps you can summarize, Matt, for all the people on Twitter who don't have time to read the whole patent. What's the key innovation your patent covers that wasn't already part of ENS?
ENS Update 🧵: In 2023 Unstoppable Domains (UD) obtained a patent for technology ENS Labs developed as open-source. Today, we petitioned USPTO to challenge the validity of that patent, and to ensure the web remains a collaborative space. Here's why and what’s at stake.
It's Day 1 of the Onchain Names & Identity hackathon here in Hanoi, Vietnam

Reality Check: Tokenization of Web2 domains does not solve domain transfers (yet)
I've been watching the rise of web2 tokenization with interest, looking closely for opportunities. There are at least 5 companies entering this space (@3dns_inc, @namefi_io, @liquid_domains, @d3inc, @webunitedcom). I've talked a lot about the benefits of tokenization in the past -- I've said domains might be one of the best use cases for NFTs. Briefly, the benefits include:
- ownership/security (multisig, DAOs)
- market transparency and liquidity (onchain sales)
- composability (DNS record automation)
- fast transfers, no escrow, lower commissions
But if we're being honest, domain transfers are not really solved (yet). Instant transfers can only take place between a buyer and seller at the same @ICANN Registrar (and this can already happen without tokenization). I will pick on @3dns_inc here, since they are first to market. (BTW I respect what they are doing and I think @boxdomains is a great step forward.) BUT, all their domains are currently owned in a @Namesilo reseller account. Instant swapping is only applicable for the small number of domains under their management. To be fair, they have said they will be launching their own @ICANN accredited registrar this year, but that won't really change things on this front. If you see a domain you like at @namefi_io, well, they are using Amazon's white label registrar, so there is no instant transferring between those systems either. If you have a domain at @Namecheap, and you want to benefit from tokenization, you still need to go through the usual EPP AUTH CODE transfer process to move it to 3DNS (Namesilo), then pay an additional $36/year on top of regular domain renewal fees for the privilege.
If you are a (successful) domain investor, is it worthwhile to transfer a large portfolio of domains to a new registrar and pay an additional annual fee for the liquidity benefits of mostly crypto buyers? Maybe – if you sell primarily to other domain investors, or specialize in crypto domains. But if you want to actually sell your domains to end users, like the kind of buyer who pays $10,000 for something like ArizonaPools•com, then you still need to list your domains at traditional marketplaces like @Afternic, @Undeveloped, @Sedo. Those buyers and markets are where the real money is made. When an end user buys your name through the @GoDaddy checkout because that's the registrar they already use and trust, it won't matter whether it's tokenized or not, and it won't speed up the transfer. The sale won't be recorded on the blockchain for all to see and you won't be paid instantly.
IMHO. The tokenization of domains will remain a niche product until some of the larger existing registrars like @Namecheap, @Spaceship, and @Porkbun build this into their platform. If the entire @Dynadot Aftermarket was available for direct NFT purchase, then we're talking. If registrars could agree on a blockchain protocol to either wrap or replace EPP Auth Code transfers, then things could get interesting. @GoDaddy, more than anybody, has very little incentive to cooperate when they make 15-25% commission on all sales through @Afternic. Their near monopoly on the aftermarket (Afternic + Dan) likely means the largest pool of both buyers and domain inventory will remain behind slow transfers and high commissions. (sigh)
Hey, we're back @texasgov! We are excited to share that Hey TX, a Texas company, has officially gained ownership of the .Texas Top Level Domain on @HNS. We will be good stewards of this important digital asset and look forward to collaborating with the State of Texas in the future to ensure online freedom and prosperity for all Texans and Texas businesses.

$HNS domains are supported by @Namecheap@EnCirca@Porkbun they are extended to several other blockchains like $ETH, $AVAX, $ATOM. They are working in several web3 browsers like @MASQ_ai or @trycarbonio (more integrations coming). Even your boss at UD is selling some.
