Looks like @G_Roach_21 can't handle being wrong, and does the same thing that others do when they can't win in a conversation: block people. He can't admit that even Blue Laws are secular in nature. There goes another tally in his "Lose" column.
@JoshuaBarzon And? Where is the point you are trying to make? Are you trying to suggest that the states and local governments can? You would be wrong. The Establishment Clause and Free Exercise Clause was incorporated against the states, so they are prohibited from doing the same thing.
@G_Roach_21@OneforthreeC1@fire_starter457 And you seem to be confused by the fact that any government entity at the federal, state, and local levels are not allowed to favor/respect/endorse one religion over another. As far religious principles… the Christian right lack those.
@G_Roach_21@OneforthreeC1@fire_starter457 Blue laws are state laws. Many of them have been repealed in some way. Yes, they were ruled to be constitutional because they were made so people can freely practice their religion and religious beliefs. But that doesn’t change the fact that the U.S. is secular.
@G_Roach_21@OneforthreeC1@fire_starter457 How hard is it for you to understand that there are no federal laws based in religion, and that the United States is secular and has always been secular? Christian nationalists are hell bent on trying to turn it into one, though.
@G_Roach_21@OneforthreeC1@fire_starter457 No federal law is based in religion. If a law happens to follow a religious belief, that is a coincidence, not that it was based on religion. There are records of laws that are older than found in the Bible. Who’s to say that the laws of Bible didn’t come from those older laws?
@RepMichaelRulli The left is trying to rewrite our history? That’s rich coming from a person whose party is actively trying to downplay or even whitewash U.S. history. Republicans in Texas are downplaying or eliminating significant historical events in U.S. history.
@G_Roach_21@OneforthreeC1@fire_starter457 And yet… the United States is a secular nation. There are exactly ZERO federal laws that are based on religion. If it were a Christian nation, more federal laws would be based on religion or religious beliefs. The United States has never been a Christian nation.
@G_Roach_21@OneforthreeC1@fire_starter457 I want to believe you. It’s just hard to believe that the United States is a Christian nation when the people who wrote the U.S. Constitution made sure that the Freedom of Religion was the first protected right in the First Amendment of the Constitution.
@AltPerspec@Sassafrass_84 If they aren’t subject to U.S. jurisdiction, then they need to stop deporting people. They can’t break a U.S. law if they are not subject to U.S. jurisdiction.
@JonathanESwan If the United States was a Christian nation, then it would have a national religion. The freedom of religion and the lack of a national religion says that the United States is NOT a Christian nation. It is a nation where people are free to be Christian.
@Daniel_Bare Opinions are just that: opinions. The fact of the matter is they ruled that no state law or school board could mandate reading passages from the Bible in public schools. It is also a requirement, so students can’t opt-out. This is forcing non-Christian students to read the Bible.
@hypnoksa Parents who want their children taught from the Bible can opt to send them to religious schools. There is no need to bring the Bible into public schools when religious schools exist. Public schools are secular for a reason.
@JBarrORConserv@MarioNawfal Your side is trying to argue that a person somehow cut a 350-foot gash in a lining that is supposedly uncuttable with a box cutter in a pool that is no more than 30 inches deep, which is monitored by several cameras, without being caught in the act. But the left are the loonies?
@ConfessingKite You don't need the Bible to understand law and civics. I know that what Texas is doing is completely unconstitutional, and I didn't even need the Bible to understand that. It's basic law and civics. Did you know that the Code of Hammurabi is older than the Bible?
@jtcope4 That's odd. I can't find where President Andrew Jackson said this. Oh, right... That's because he didn't. It was actually President Woodrow Wilson. And no, the United States is not a Christian nation. If it were, there wouldn't be freedom of religion.
@ChristandGuitar If the non-Christian children want to learn about the Bible, that is up to their parents, not the public school system.
For the Christians: Stop trying to force your religion and religious beliefs on those who are not Christian, especially in the United States.
@WagonnBurner@HenryGB_274@factpostnews The Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause were incorporated against the states. This incorporation prohibits the state and local governments from violating these clauses. So no, the states cannot do what they want in regard to the clauses mentioned in this comment.
