Thanks to @lynleyjmcalpine, we have confirmation of what's being depicted on the right side of that newly excavated Nilotic fresco. It's an Archimedes Screw - a water screw! The water is being pumped out of the river to fill the dolium (jar) for the donkey.
It gets better... 1/

We are deeply saddened to receive news of the death of our Oxford colleague and CARC Senior Research Associate, Professor Sir John Boardman. https://t.co/fuvqT3lEMk
Was not aware of this fascinating piece; such a simple statement says so much about the logistics of the courier system of Roman Britain!
For those curious about the original Latin: "Trimontio aut Lugu(v)a[l]io M(arco) Iulio Martiali"

This illustration of a Roman writing tablet from makes a rare mention of #Trimontium and gives us some insight into the Roman postal system. The drawing is from the tablet which is like an address label and says 'Try Trimontium or Carlisle for Julius Martialis'.
One of the oldest wheels from southwest Germany was found in the Olzreuter Ried. Due to dendrochronology, it could be dated to around 2900 BC.
The wheel was impregnated with fire to protect it from fungal attack, as can be seen from the dark discolored areas.
