@thegregfleet Good to hear quiting smoking is going well! Smoking can exacerbate sleep apnea, but it might be worth talking to your GP about it though. Us roos supporters goto stick together.
@p0usr@ToshiAkima They were probably referring to the relationship between leak (l/min) and exposed surface area between mask and skin. If you increase the resistance of the mask filter, there's more leak for any given fit. If you have a p100 and N95 shaped exactly the same, the p100 leaks more.
P2/N95 filtering facepiece respirators: Results of a large-scale quantitative mask fit testing program in Australian health care workers - fit testing essential; duckbills not the best design. @kate_cole_ https://t.co/RajbfpzBbw
@Kenneth33071904@FranksCranks@kprather88@youseepeeYYC I think this is the correct interpretation.
Although virus counts in the nose and on face for the surgical mask and fit test failed N95s were hitting our measurement ceiling. It's possible those masks were providing some protection, but we were unable to quantify this.
@maskupmelb@SimonAJoosten1 I really strongly encourage you to send some feedback in some medium other than Twitter. This is a terrible place for nuance. And nuance is exactly what you are grilling us about. If you feel strongly about this, go the extra mile and work with us.
@maskupmelb@SimonAJoosten1 @apmalong @JIDJournal@masknerd If you committed to helping, I'd be very grateful if you sent me your suggested line edits (correspondence info on the first page) and we can take that under advisement at the proofing stage.
@maskupmelb@SimonAJoosten1 @apmalong @JIDJournal@masknerd You can not change wording in an accepted article at will (what would be the point of publication if you could?). The paper is currently an 'advance article' , we will have opportunity for minor revisions at the proofing stage - that's the journals timeline, not ours.
@paddleplr @maskupmelb@SimonAJoosten1@JIDJournal@masknerd Its also important to remember that masks can also provide source control and are generally very effective at this. This study was not measuring source control and was not designed to assess this.
@paddleplr @maskupmelb@SimonAJoosten1@JIDJournal@masknerd Just because a mask isn't fit tested doesn't mean it can'/wont work, it just means there is uncertainty with regards to the quality of fit. The data shows that if the N95 is quantitatively confirmed to be a poor fit, then it may not be superior to a surgical mask.
@ariccio@SimonAJoosten1@JIDJournal Very interested in comparing relative performance to an N95. Elastomeric likely better for movement, but I worry about increased leakage expected from p100 filter medium (greater resistance to airflow encourages leak). Negligible or important, needs testing.
@viaggare@bel10@DrPieterPeach@psvbluemts@SimonAJoosten1@JIDJournal Sorry, I've not come anywhere that fit tests for the public. While it is still a generalization, the 3M Aura is a really good mask. It has a very high pass rate for fit tests done in hospital. It is really tight, its not a surprise to anyone that tends to fit really well.
