The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Nakhumicha S. Wafula inaugurated the Board of Directors at the Kenya Institute of Primate Research (KIPRE) on January 23, 2024. Formerly known as IPR, KIPRE has been a biomedical research pioneer since 1958, focusing on drug and vaccine development aligned with the government's Universal Health Coverage agenda. With a diverse range of departments, KIPRE transitions from IPR, emphasizing domestic healthcare capacity. CS Wafula commended the institution's potential in human capacity, research milestones, and its role in preventing non-communicable diseases. She highlighted upcoming benefits from the Social Health Authority, encouraging lifestyle adjustments for better health outcomes. The CS approved HR instruments, urging prompt personnel placement to fulfill the institution's mandate. During the visit, Nakhumicha toured facilities, acknowledging KIPRE's advancements in reproductive health products and its role in addressing snakebites. The staff is committed to contributing to the Universal Health Coverage agenda.
@primateresearch hosted 25 participants from the Technical University of Kenya for a 4 day Hands-On Phage Isolation Workshop. The workshop will cover foundational phage biology and lab techniques, focusing on hands-on training in phage isolation and characterization.
