Kind of on a mission now. It is humbling but yet I appreciate the opportunity to build empathy. I have no idea what it feels like to be disabled. I will get better. Insight none-the-less.
Broke my leg at MPA. Now dealing with severe blood clots. Navigating campus in a wheelchair is more difficult than I was aware. I will get better. Mapping routes for those who won't. How accessible is your campus?
It is super hard to disbelief the myths, and just mentioning the myth then attempting to disbelief it -- that brief mention tends to strengthen the myth's valence. https://t.co/CdpcNRgCrh
I have been doing Psychology Nights this semester discussing common myths in psychology. Students, staff, and folks from the community attend. I just present the research and let them decide.
@AliMattu@ericlandrum Number 4 needs to be qualified. If they spent 25 years in applied fields prior to coming to academia, they might know a little (outside academia).
@psychoBOBlogy Not to diminish the mistakes of the past, the NFL Village in Canton, OH is coming along nicely. This "compound" will house and treat former players/performers who suffer from life-long maladies incurred during their days in the league. Past-learn-improve.
Classy rendition of the National Anthem performed by a classy woman prior to the Super Bowl. This vet shed a tear. It doesn't happen nearly enough. Thanks Gladys, for everything.
Psychopaths don't exist. All that exists are humans with differing levels of typically-expressed psychopathic personality traits. Same for everything listed in the DSM. Humans aren't dichotomous categories; we each express some level of each classification at some point.
Dude. I worked in applied fields for 25 years before I came to academia and got my (2nd) doctorate in my late 50's. It is never too late to make an impact. We can make a difference. Be confident, listen to the young folk, and inspire them to finish what we started.
Yes Iโm a middle aged academic, but I only graduated with my PhD at age 37, was doing postdocs in my 40s and got my first permanent academic position aged 45. I wish I was more confident about my career choices when I was younger, but it took me longer than some to get here.
@ReganARGurung@kbeckerblease@rnsoicher @rycmart @GeorjeannaWD We have unfinished business with psychology honor societies. We need to make them relevant and important. I am committed to carrying the flag and confidence is high as I know you are beside me.
