For the past 18 months, I’ve been inspired to seek greater service—motivated by the challenges facing my community.
I’m so humbled by this appointment to join the White House at such a time as this. Looking forward to serving & working for an equitable COVID-19 rescue & recovery!
President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris announced additional members of the White House COVID-19 Response team.
This team will work quickly to implement a comprehensive response strategy to contain the pandemic and restore public trust.

Happy National Daughters Day to my Avery—my first born, my personality twin and my favorite budding artist/marine biologist/YouTuber/hooper! You’ve been a gift…now go clean your room.
I walk in your room & introduce myself
examine your ankle
offer my clinical impression/plan
even describe the pathophysiology…
You ask—sincerely—how I BOTH work in the kitchen…& w/Dr. “X”
Always 🤯 by the fierce & mind-bending loyalty ppl can have to stereotypes!

Special shout out to two of my former White House colleagues on the list: @StephLYoung (Team 44) & @SymoneDSanders (Team 46).
Always amazed by the two of you and grateful for your continued leadership!
Grateful to @EBONYMag for naming me to their 2022 Power100 list—definitely an honor.
Appreciative of the recognition, humbled by the awesome company on the list, & hopeful for the future! (check out the “Gen Next” list, including the inimitable @ZyahnaB)

Funny thing about this clip is that it was halftime & the game was tied. Needed to get our defensive intensity up so instead of layup lines we did defensive slide drills. I’m THAT coach! 🤦🏾♂️
We didn’t win today, but I’m always proud of how these 5th/6th graders play.
When @Leighwebb_MD encouraged me to coach Avery’s team, I hesitated bc I’ve been so busy. With White House + patient care, I thought it couldn’t fit. But I took a leap & made it a priority. Now, it’s my favorite part of each week. These girls are great!
Balance is everything 😎
Today’s @KFF Vaccine Monitor shows gaps in vax rates are nearly closed.
73% Latino, 71% White & 70% Black adults w/1+ shot received.
Recent survey data from @pewresearch & @CDCgov (🧵) tells a similar story.
Good news, but…“job’s not finished. Job finished? I don’t think so.”
Just got back home from a long trip talking COVID-19 & the social determinants of health across the South (SC, FL, GA, AL). This isn’t the fun, flashy or easy work…but it IS the necessary work.
Grateful to be in this space for such a time as this. Miles to go before I sleep…
One thing is clear from these visits: deep engagement isn’t just important—it’s essential in our efforts to end this pandemic equitably.
Coordinating across government

Connecting across community

Changing the narrative…
…that’s how we alter the trajectory & save lives.
All bc Delta variant continues to play zero games…
I worked Fri/Sat nights & it’s tough seeing the rate of COVID admissions rivaling my busiest COVID unit nights of 2020.
Asked each patient if they were vaccinated. With 1 exception (partially vaxxed), they all said no. 😔
The UVA Medical Center continues to see more and more patients hospitalized with COVID-19 each week, but most of them are either not vaccinated or immunocompromised. https://t.co/Uk8QgyRqXE
Had a blast talking COVID w/@UVA students, @LarrySabato & @TerryMcAuliffe. Not sure what’s hotter: 96 degrees or the tough ?s from these young scholars! The future is in good hands.
Also, pretty sure this pic was TMac giving me that “get back in the game” talk. Never left! 😂👌🏾
I am pleased to be joined by Governor @TerryMcAuliffe and @DrCameronWebb today to discuss the importance of the new COVID guidelines and vaccination requirements here at @UVA
Joined @Surgeon_General this am to talk COVID-19 equity w/6 past US Surgeons General.
Although they served under different political ideologies, they showed how politics don’t dictate what is good public health.
“There’s no daylight between us [when it comes to public health].”
Growing up, July 4th was one occasion each year where my mom & her siblings would get brand new outfits: always in 🔴⚪️🔵.
Carrying it forward, my siblings & I would wear those same colors on 7/4. Now, my kids do, too!
Nice to get some traditions back this year!
#HowDoYou4th🇺🇸
July 1st = brand new interns…& I just so happen to be attending on the wards!
Working w/brand new interns has me reflecting on how much I’ve grown since my 1st day as a doctor:
e.g., ⬆️ knowledge/experience/humility & ⬇️ stuff in my pockets! 😂
Welcome to residency, docs!
A whirlwind trip to NC, full of good folks & great work.
So powerful in Charlotte & Raleigh to see so many groups energized & ready to go knock on doors and get people trusted vaccination information. Never seen anything like it!
Days like today are why I know #WeCanDoThis!
