Humans generally look at the world through a keyhole. A few learn how to open the door to a wider view. Fewer still ever climb the mountain to see the entire panorama.
At the relative level of apparent existence, we express ourselves from our current level of consciousness development. Never mistake your current position as permanent or "right." As consciousness continues to unfold, you will come to understand things somewhat differently.
We imbibe knowledge we did not have previously from numerous sources (I most like books and education, but there are infinite ways). Wisdom is created out of that knowledge when it is combined with and validated by repeated experience.
U. G. Krishnamurti on enlightenment:
"Maybe I can convince you not to waste a lot of time and energy looking for a state that does not exist except in your imagination . . . The natural state is acausal: it just happens."
"Satsang" is a sanskrit word that literally means a meeting with the truth or being with what is. I like to call it "shitsang." If you can hear the harmony of the crap in your life and sit with it patiently, then you're really on to something.
I think developing the ability to observe the stream of thought objectively, with curiosity and without judgment, is key to freedom from negative narratives and the needless suffering they often create.
We are all members of the Godhead, to borrow Meister Eckhart's term. Indeed, we are so absorbed in it that we are Godhead Itself, that is to say, LOVE divine and incarnate. To know this beyond any doubt is pure blessing and beatitude.
The desire to give up the self is a spiritual project of the self. Do you still want a spiritual practice? Okay, simply observe the self. That is all. Oh, and let me know when you find it. 😉

Why have we evolved so that defending our ideas, opinions, and beliefs and trying to convince others of the "rightness" of those ideas is so important to our sense of safety and survival. What is it about our mental lives that is so vulnerable that we MUST have others agree?
The goal of the spiritual life is NOT relationship with God, Consciousness, Awareness. That establishes separation permanently. The goal is Oneness with God. Love by any other name.
