#UsdanPetTips ⚠️ If your dog loves swimming or drinking from lakes, it’s important to be aware of harmful algal blooms (HABs), also known as blue-green algae. HABs produce toxins that can affect the liver, skin, and central nervous system — and can be fatal if ingested.

In 2025, HABs have been detected in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Lake and Manhattan’s Central Park Lake. In past years, blooms have also been found in other NYC locations, including Morningside Pond, Turtle Pond, and Harlem Meer in Manhattan, as well as Brooks Lake, Clove Lake, and Willowbrook Pond on Staten Island.
