We are deeply concerned about the UK Government's plans to introduce voter ID 🗳️
These proposals would create barriers to voting, significantly impacting people on low incomes and people from BAME backgrounds.
Voter ID would not protect our democracy, but diminish it.
We are looking for parents who use drugs and affected family members to join our Learning Alliance, to guide our study of parental opioid use and support dissemination. More info via https://t.co/12zSzHGTxh and email [email protected] if you’d like to join!
@ParianteSPILab @KingsIoPPN@KensingtonRoyal@MMHAlliance@ParentInfantFdn@AlisonBaum@rcpsychPeri@NIHRMaudsleyBRC Improve it by publicly recognizing the massive inequality that exits in the UK & the structural disadvantages & lack of opportunities many parents struggle with, in addition to parenting, and recognize that these disadvantages are linked to wealth as much as they are to poverty.
Inequality matters. Latest government substance misuse treatment stats show that 56% of people in treatment for crack and/or opiates lived in areas ranked in the 30% most deprived in England. Drug misuse is not an individual matter.
@Dr_LeanneDawson What I have found that bothers me is that in D and I meetings & literature class doesn't feature, yet it is key to people's opportunities, health, life and death.
@Dr_LeanneDawson Bourdieu said class was embodied. When I started work in a past research post I was directed to the refectory as they presumed I worked in the kitchen. Took the wind out my sails and showed me how I would be seen.
@DrTeresaCrew Class gets forgotten. We SHOULD bang on about it. Constant news items about raising standards and leveling inequalities in a country with educational apartheid based on wealth and class.
Worth remembering that Portugal accompanied decriminalisation with major investment in public health, housing and welfare (including introducing a 'guaranteed minimum income').

I'm heading up to the Glasgow Drug Summit today to sit on a panel tomorrow. I'll be keeping my messages simple: 1 - policy and political discourses must accept causal link between poverty / trauma / lack of wider life chances and drug problems (1/5)
Strong voice from @careylunan advocating for critical role of general practice in providing compassionate, long term care for people who use drugs and their families. #UKDrugSummit
Am slightly struggling to follow the logic at today's #UKDrugSummit as big focus on drugs through the lens of crime, justice and enforcement, but @DameCarolBlack also reflects prison "is not a place of recovery" with easy access to drugs and poor access to treatment. Correct!
