Excellent news from Scotland. All grousemoor owners will have to be licenced. Trapping of so called pests such as foxes banned. Grousemoor owners and their gamekeepers are clearly incapable of adhering to the law and stop killing protected birds such as Hen Harriers and eagles.
@MarkCocker2 If even the CEO of Chester Zoo, one of the more enlightened, thinks like this, then what's the attitude of the many inadequately funded zoos where a majority of their animals are kept in very restricted spaces and often poor conditions? And please don't justify it with education.
@JamesCleverly The EU has made a big financial commitment to help get the Treaty over the line. The UK must follow their lead. We must not waste this chance to secure a strong Global Ocean Treaty!
If only Truss had read this and not Gove, maybe she might have understood why what little is left of Britain's farmland wildlife will only survive and expand if area based payments are abolished and an Environmental Land Management scheme adopted on all farms.
@DaveGoulson@Natures_Voice Don't forget that this horror applies only in England thanks to these right wingers who consider themselves a Government. I don't know about Scotland but I'm positive that our Welsh Government will not be going down such a reckless road!
@Jeremy_Hunt@NHSuk JeremyHunt says he is concerned at our shortage of GPs. So why, when he was Sos for Health, did he not increase the allocation of 7,500 medical training places per annum. He didn't.
Now we have the evidence to prove the damaging impact of released pheasants on wildlife. A Belgian study shows that pheasant release areas are almost devoid of reptiles compared with pheasant-free areas. Importantly, no Slow-worms survive where pheasants are released.
I just signed the petition calling on Culture Secretary @NadineDorries to scrap her damaging plans to sell off Channel 4 to a private buyer! Can you add your name too? https://t.co/2ucHL4hQCy
Did you know that there's an annual award for the oddest book title? It's run by Literary Hub in the US and The Bookseller in the UK.
My "HATS: A VERY UNNATURAL HISTORY" is one of the 6 shortlisted.
Doesn't seem an odd title to me. What does anyone else think??
Prime Minister @LeeHsienLoong, Singapore has shown it cares about people with intellectual disabilities. Naga is one of those people - and his condition seems worse than ever. Please will you spare his life? #SaveNagaenthran
Disgraceful. Is he being influenced by a few farmers who always refer to themselves as "the guardians of the countryside"? What a joke that is. Next election, make sure he is voted out.
@_Ivan_Ramirez Sounds brilliant but avocados require enormous quantities of water to grow. So what are the environmental consequences of growing them in Ethiopia? More desertification? More dried up streams? More depletion of aquifers?
The important issue is whether Natural England is going to make a stand with its opposition....or give up under UK Government pressure. Lets see Tony Juniper galvanise some necessary action.....
Devastating to see plans for the London Resort moving forward. A death sentence for estuary biodiversity, from rare plants to migratory birds that rely on few remaining wild areas of the Thames. Despite SSSI status and campaigning, I fear it'll happen😢 https://t.co/OwouPzzqZg

@steviesteve181 Divorce or no divorce, at least he's reading one of the best books to address what's gone wrong in our countryside and how we might get our farmland plants and animals back again.
