Lebanon’s health budget has dropped by over 90% since 2018, shared Finance Minister Yassine Jaber during a meeting with @WHOEMRO Director @HananBalkhy and @WHO Lebanon Representative @abdinasirgole. The call for urgent public investment in health is clear. 🇱🇧
I met with health sector partners in #Lebanon to thank them for their tireless work under immense pressure. Despite insecurity, funding cuts, and growing needs, they continue to protect and save lives. Only 46% of the sector’s needs are funded. The public health system is overstretched, and refugee health services are at risk. I urge continued solidarity, burden-sharing, and sustainable financing to preserve gains and strengthen the health system. Working alongside @mophleb, we remain committed to health for all.
@OCHALebanon l @UN_Lebanon
I met the fantastic @WHOLebanon team, who continue to strive for health for all despite the setbacks and the challenges.
Some have lost friends or family members. Others have been displaced or seen their homes destroyed.
Yet they remain laser-focused on our mission.
Day in, day out, WHO staff lead lifesaving operations, deliver health supplies, and support health partners across #Lebanon.
You are #WHO. Keep up the great work.
🚨 25 Years of GOARN: Transforming Global Health Through Strategic Partnerships and Collective Action🚨 As we mark 25 years of the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN), we reflect on the incredible impact of partnership and collaboration in strengthening global health security. From the outset, GOARN has been at the forefront of enhancing not only global health responses by deploying over 3,645 responders to emergency operations but preparedness as well, enabling a rapid and coordinated response to health emergencies across the world. One of our key contributions is improving communication and coordination. Every week, GOARN unites WHO, partner institutions, and global health experts in real-time operational calls. By fostering two-way communication, we enable our partners to stay connected, share vital information, and act swiftly in response to emerging public health crises. This collaboration ensures that we are always prepared to respond together. 🌍🤝 As we mark 25 years of global collaboration, we are proud of the foundation we’ve built — a stronger, more connected health network that continues to evolve with each challenge. 💪
In extensive discussions with #Somalia’s Minister of Health, HE Dr Ali Haji Adan, I acknowledged the preparatory work being done to reform the health sector as part of the country’s National Transformation Plan 2025-2029. I was pleased to see that many of the health priorities identified in the first phase of the plan align with my Regional flagship initiatives, including scaling up a specialized health workforce and expanding access to safe and effective medicines.
It is critical to protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases.

WHO condemns today's attack on civilians and frontline health workers at the entrance of Salah Ghandour Hospital in Bint Jbeil town, South Lebanon. Hospitals and health workers should have the freedom to provide lifesaving services to the public without any fear or risk.
Civilians, humanitarian workers, and healthcare workers must be protected at all times.
Accessing basic lifesaving services is a human right, and it is important to safeguard public infrastructure in Lebanon.
Civilians and healthcare workers are #NotATarget.
Yesterday, I attended a ceremony with the Minister of Public Health & the President of the Order of Nurses in 🇱🇧 to commemorate International Nurses Day. We salute nurses' contributions to healthcare and express our gratitude to nurses worldwide.
Happy International Nurses Day!
No one can deny the impact of vaccination on children and adults in the last 50 years. It's time to reinvigorate the immunization program to reach more children and save lives.
WHO supports @mophleb efforts to boost vaccine coverage among children in🇱🇧.

All prisoners have the same right as anyone else to access health services. WHO greatly appreciates the support of @Norwayinlebanon in improving access to health services in 🇱🇧’s prison centers. Today I am glad to join Amb. Martin to visit a female prison in Beirut

WHO, along with @mophleb & partners, has continued to scale up hospital readiness to manage mass casualties related to the ongoing cross-border conflicts in South Lebanon & beyond.
Our main goal is to save more lives & provide vital health services to vulnerable people across 🇱🇧
WHO & Africa-CDC have raised the alarm. "A health threat anywhere is a health threat everywhere." Where are the lessons learned from the COVID of working together. We should be proactive in assisting DRC in containing Mpox outbreak and preventing its spread to other countries.
Wishing Eid Mubarak to everyone.
May Allah grant peace, stability, justice, freedom, and good health to everyone around the world on this special day.
Embracing the spirit of unity and lasting peace and stability in Lebanon.
