@sambolton007@WHO@MOH_Kenya@WHOAFRO This is a landmark step! When 30-90% of people rely on traditional medicine, ignoring it isn't just a gap โ it's a policy failure. Integrating TCIM into national health systems is how we build truly inclusive, people-centered healthcare. Africa leading the way! ๐ฟ๐ #HealthForAll
Globally 30-90% of people rely on traditional medicine, yet it gets less than 1% of health funding. Good news: East Africa Moves to Integrate Traditional Medicine into National Health Systems #traditionalmedicine#TCIM@WHO#TCIH#NCD@MOH_Kenya@WHOAFRO https://t.co/bCR0kIchd2

Today marks a pivotal moment for health in East Africa.
The East African Forum on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Health (TCIH) is officially underway in Nairobi, Kenya โ bringing together government officials, WHO representatives, regulators, researchers, and practitioners from across the region.
With 60โ80% of East Africans relying on traditional medicine as their primary form of healthcare, formalising and integrating TCIH into national health systems is no longer optional โ it is essential for achieving Universal Health Coverage.
A landmark milestone of this forum is the launch of the East African TCIH Network, a structured regional body with Kenya as inaugural chair, Tanzania as vice-chair, and a clear roadmap toward independence by 2030. The network will work to standardise training and certification, strengthen research, protect indigenous knowledge, and bridge the gap between traditional and conventional medicine.
We are proud to be part of this historic gathering. Follow along for live updates throughout the day.

#TraditionalMedicine brings both inheritance and innovation to global health.
This was on the agenda at my meeting with Professor Huang Luqi, Vice Commissioner of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine ๐จ๐ณ yesterday, on the sidelines of the 2nd WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine in India.
I am grateful for @WHO_Europeโs deepening cooperation with China, and learning from China how this innovation can inspire us across the European Region.
Thank you, Professor Luqi, for your willingness to support other countries through sharing experience, research, policy approaches, and practical models of integration.
