Horrendous statement from UK prime minister Andy Burnham on Manchester City’s Abu Dhabi ownership.
1) As PM he should remain entirely neutral.
2) ‘I can’t intervene *more*’ suggests he already has.
3) ‘The detail’ may demonstrate that losing them would be for the best.

Am I right I saying that if you pay into the state pension scheme for the full 35 years you get £241.30 a week.

And if you haven’t paid in but apply for pension credit you get £238.

You pay in for 35 years to get £3.30 a week more than someone that just turns up and claims.

Today Burnham is set to tell the conference the triple lock “doesn’t work” and should be reviewed in the next manifesto.

Raise the pension age. Means-test winter fuel. Work longer. Get less.

And still they find billions for people who never paid in.

The pot is only empty when it’s the people who built the country asking for what they were promised.

So, The King has spoken through the Lord Chamberlain. And what he has to say makes chilling hearing for Harry and Meghan. At least to those of us who understand palacespeak.

Not only does he affirm that Harry and Meghan no longer possess royal status, but he confirms that fact, for the first time, by pointing out that their HRH styles are in abeyance. Those last words 'in abeyance' are a legal term with legal significance - something which was fudged when the original Sandringham Agreement was announced. At that time, it was merely stated that they would not be using their Royal Highness styles; now, by stating that theya re in abeyance, he is asserting that they no longer have the right to do so.

Doubling down on their loss of royal status, the Lord Chamberlain emphasises that this fact by stating: In short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.

In other words, no one needs to bow or curtsy to Harry and Meghan. This is ratified with sutblety and elegance in the recommendation that those who have questions about the courtesies to which they think Harry and Meghan might be entitled, should refer to Buckingham Palace, whose guidance, off the record, will be as it was with regards to the Duchess of Windsor. No HRH, no bowing or curtsying.

How many tears left eye will Meghan shed once she and Harry realise that they've just been reduced to ordinary citizens, and any pretence to the contrary is shot down by The King's message through the Lord Chamberlain.

A police officer pulls over a speeding car...

The officer says, "I clocked you at 80 miles per hour, sir."

The driver says, "Gee, officer, I had it on cruise control at 60; perhaps your radar gun needs calibrating."

Not looking up from her knitting, the wife says: "Now don't be silly, dear, you know that this car doesn't have cruise control."

As the officer writes out the ticket, the driver looks over at his wife and growls, "Can't you please keep your mouth shut for once?"

The wife smiles demurely and says, "You should be thankful your radar detector went off when it did."

As the officer makes out the second ticket for the illegal radar detector unit, the man glowers at his wife and says through clenched teeth, "Darn it, woman, can't you keep your mouth shut?"

The officer frowns and says, "And I notice that you're not wearing your seat belt, sir. That's an automatic $75 fine."

The driver says, "Yeah, well, you see, officer, I had it on, but took it off when you pulled me over so that I could get my license out of my back pocket."

The wife says, "Now, dear, you know very well that you didn't have your seat belt on. You never wear your seat belt when you're driving."

And as the police officer is writing out the third ticket, the driver turns to his wife and barks, "WHY DON'T YOU PLEASE SHUT UP??"

The officer looks over at the woman and asks, "Does your husband always talk to you this way, Ma'am?"

"Only when he's been drinking, officer.'
