After insulting Peter Obi, please also advise President Tinubu to start saving the excess on our crude oil sales.

The 2026 budget was pegged at $64 dollars per barrel. And since the escalation in the middle east for over 3 months now, oil has been selling at around $100.

That's about $36 dollars surplus on each barrel sold.

Nigeria is producing and selling over 1.6 million barrels on daily basis.

That's about $57 million dollars surplus earned on daily basis.

In 3 months, that's about $5.1 billion dollars (N6.8 trillion Naira) extra surplus received by Tinubu in the past 3 months.

It was through this same surplus that President Jonathan handed over $2.1 billion dollars in the Excess Crude Account to President Buhari.

I’ve seen several reactions to my comments on Dr Hamzat and his oath of allegiance to the United States.

My final point on this is that while it may be non justiciable given amendments to the electoral act, I want every voter to read what he swore to while denouncing his country, Nigeria, and Lagos.

Dr Hamzat not only swore to defend the constitution and interests of a foreign government. He also swore that he will take up arms to defend that country even against Nigeria.

It is therefore unconscionable that such an individual now seeks to lead Our Lagos.

That he denounced his motherland, and now submits to a godfather is the kind of moral failure that every proud Lagosian and Nigerian should find repulsive.

THE NIGERIA STATE EDUCATION PROGRAM INVESTMENT PROJECT [ SEPIP]

The Nigeria - State Education Program Investment Project (SEPIP) is a World Bank-backed initiative designed to improve the quality, management, and efficiency of education in participating states across Nigeria.

OBJECTIVE OF THIS KEY EDUCATION INTERVENTIONS FUNDS

The key goal of this interventions program was to support federal and state efforts to enhance basic education delivery, student learning outcomes, and institutional accountability.

STATES THAT PARTICIPATED

Originally implemented in Anambra, Bauchi, and Ekiti, with additional financing later extending support to other regions, including North East states affected by security challenges (such as Borno and Taraba).

FINANCING REQUEST

The financing request for the State Education Program Investment Project (SEPIP) was officially initiated and submitted to the World Bank by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN).

The Funds were allocated and on-Lent to the participating state governments (such as Anambra, Bauchi, and Ekiti), which act as the sub-national implementing agencies alongside the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

Total Projects Credit: USD250million [ Anambra got $48m]

Interest Rate: ZERO % (Principal is interest-free).

Service Charge: Approximately 0.75% per annum on the disbursed credit balance

Commitment Fee: A maximum of 0.5% per annum on any undisbursed loan balance (often waived or reduced by the World Bank board annually).

Tenor : 40 years.

Moratorium: 10 years (no principal repayments required during the first decade of the project).

FUNDS DISBURSMENTS

This $48m was disbursed in 4 successive implementation years.. 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016...

1. In November 5, 2013 , Anambra state received the initial allocation of US$4.5 million/N697.5m...At the launch of this program, the Anambra state government under Peter Obi injected an additional ₦1.5 billion into state school funds to act as concurrent counterpart momentum alongside the World Bank’s baseline release.

This initial allcation was utilised for official launch of SEPIP in Anambra State.

This initial advance payments were released to establish the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) and kick off the framework

2. The second disbursement of USD$5.5m was made on June 18, 2014, more than 3 months after Peter Obi left Government house Awka as Governor of Anambra state

Out of the total disbursement of USD$48m made under this key special education interventions scheme , only $4.5m/N697m was made under Peter Obi as Governor of Anambra state ...

Anambra state under the leadership of Akpokuo Aguleri, Willie Obiano, who single handedly made the OJIONU, Governor of Anambra state, received ISD$43.5m out the total allocation of USD48m ....in 2014, 2015 and 2016

We had SURE-P under Jonathan, and under Buhari, we had N-Power, TraderMoni, the school feeding programme, and several major infrastructure projects.

Buhari’s administration constructed the Abuja–Kaduna railway, Lagos–Ibadan railway, Itakpe–Warri railway, the Lekki Deep Sea Port, and the Second Niger Bridge. His government also approved bailout funds for 27 states, paid ₦72 billion to Rivers State for federal road projects executed under Rotimi Amaechi, paid the 13% derivation to oil-producing states in the Niger Delta, and continued paying fuel and electricity subsidies.

Despite all these expenses, the government also spent heavily to defend the naira and support education.

So, with all the money saved from the removal of fuel and electricity subsidies and other policies, can someone point to one major achievement of Tinubu’s administration that compares with Buhari’s?

To me, Tinubu’s administration has been a disaster, and I do not believe he deserves another opportunity to lead Nigeria.

I always find this FAAC data interesting.

In 2018, Nigeria shared ₦7.98 trillion through FAAC. At the CBN exchange rate at the time, that was about $26 billion.

In 2025, FAAC was ₦21.9 trillion. That sounds like a massive increase which is almost three times the 2018 figure. But using the CBN rate for 2025, it comes to only about $14.4 billion.

That tells us quite a bit about what has happened to the naira.

In 2018, you needed roughly ₦306 to buy $1. By 2025, you needed around ₦1,500. So yes, there are many more naira in the system today, but each naira is worth much less than it was seven years ago.

The irony is that the weaker naira is itself one of the reasons FAAC looks so big today. If government earns $1 billion from oil and converts it at ₦1,500 to the dollar, it gets far more naira than when the exchange rate was ₦300.

But those extra naira don’t necessarily mean extra purchasing power. If a state government wants to buy equipment from abroad, for example, it is also buying those dollars at something close to ₦1,500.

This isn’t necessarily an argument that the old exchange-rate system was better. That system had its own serious problems, including multiple rates and arbitrage. The reforms since 2023 allowed the official rate to move much closer to where the market was actually pricing the naira.

It is simply a reminder to be careful with big naira numbers.

₦21.9 trillion is certainly more money than ₦7.98 trillion. But ₦1 in 2025 simply doesn’t have the same value as ₦1 in 2018.

And even the dollar comparison doesn’t tell the whole story. If we really want to know whether governments have more spending power today, we also have to account for inflation at home.

That, I suspect, is where this gets even more interesting.
