I'm going to collect bizarre Spring Training 2024 stories here. Feel free to check back.
#1, contender for best quote of the spring:
Carlos Estevez, regarding the new MLB uniforms: "When I wear my pants, I feel like I'm wearing someone else's pants."

The top story so far of MLB spring training: those new Nike-designed, Fanatics-manufactured jerseys. Fans are fuming. Players are pissed. One star has taken his thoughts directly to Nike. Others have gone to the players union.
“It looks like a replica.”

@tangotiger It’s been a pretty cool ride as a reader; from reading about base-outs states to seeing those very same contributors winning at the highest level, it’s awesome 👏
@dlbags I love it. I’m rooting for the Mets! The pressure and expectations are always sky high in NY, and it feels like they’re playing with house money this year. I imagine that’s a good feeling for the players and the fans
And it wasn’t just dreaming on the tools comparison, because for 1.5 seasons (1st half 2021, 2023 season) it actually happened. Being able to behold that level of baseball just makes this left ACL injury sting more. 😖
The Ronald Acuña Jr. - Eric Davis comp based on their tools was a really fun one to dream on. But the significant injuries taking out the prime years of both ball players is frankly jarring, and depressing.
@gvedak I’m sincerely dumbfounded that he repeats his mechanics so well, given his age. Projecting command sometimes feels like a crapshoot to me but Owen Murphy seems like a good bet to have above average command
@Glennisamenace @wanyeburkett It’s definitely an interesting discussion point, even if the subject matter is a bit morbid. I know it’s rare these days, but people can still respectfully disagree on something, even on here.
@Glennisamenace @wanyeburkett Using purity and innocence as qualifiers makes me want to disagree with you. I understand the premise of your argument, but I would think the odds of a 30 y/o possessing those traits is just as likely as a baby growing into them. Purity and innocence may not remain with age
This clip is absolutely electric. The Yankees are a monolith in the Dominican and for Dominican expats, and honestly Soto being a Yankee just intuitively makes sense to me
I want you to understand the full picture. I want you to know about the whole person, and what’s important to me. About the things reporters never ask me about. Not just the baseball part.
This is my story. @PlayersTribune

Could Acuña have done it all last season? Everything he already did to such an amazing extent, while providing above-average offense? Sure. But it's a style of play that would have never sustained year-over-year, and it's not worth a career-altering injury to try doing so.
This is probably the most measured take you're ever going to hear or watch regarding Ronnie's recent trend of below-average defense. The word 'hustle' also just needs to be retired, forever, in the context of sports talk.

Shop the vintage dugout look for all 30 teams. Limited quantities so grab one while they last!
Pathetic. Padres took a clear step back. The pitching concerns appear to be real and the offense looks as bad as last year.
I’m not convinced Shildt was the right choice to manage this team, especially after firing Melvin who showed he can beat the rival dodgers in the playoffs
@kristinbroadway From the Wall AB (that looked terrifying and uncomfortable) and Eli's AB, it looks like hitters do not like hanging in there for the slider. I already knew Sale could front-door and back-door it, but it's impressive from this angle
