The government will protect working people and those in local communities by freezing fuel duty next year.
This is a tax cut worth £3bn and will save motorists almost £60 a year.
So in his speech today, Starmer is apparently going to say today “Politics is always a choice”. Exactly. So why is Labour choosing to target some of the least well off rather than raise taxes on the wealth of the super-rich? @PatMillsUK
Scrapping the £2 bus fare cap is a disgraceful decision that will harm the poorest in society, and discourage public transport at a time when it is needed more than ever.
Why is the government punishing people for trying to get to work?
Unbelievable. The new Labour government
- with a massive mandate
- with good policies to take buses into public control following the success in Greater Manchester
INCREASING the cap on bus fares from £2 to £3
Bleak, depressing, unnecessary

🧵 So I guess the cat is out of the bag. I was fired from @Microsoft on Thursday, hours after a vigil we organized to honor and remember the lives of Palestinians killed by American-funded and Microsoft-empowered Israeli genocide.
You can’t help but feel Labour have misunderstood their own victory. People didn’t vote for them because they wanted tough-talking fiscal hawks in charge, they voted for them because they are fed up of underfunded, poorly functioning public services.
I keep checking our PM’s, the human rights lawyer, Sir Keir Starmer’s twitter, for condemnation of any of the atrocities Israel has committed in the last few days, including the Al Aqsa hospital tent burnings. Nothing. Imagine if it wasn’t Palestinian lives but Israeli’s? Is this the change he promised?
BREAKING: The UK gov't has rightly recognised that approving the Rosebank oil field without taking into account the full extent of its climate impacts was unlawful. It has conceded that argument in our & Greenpeace's legal challenge against the field.
So what does that mean?

This week’s newsletter @theipaper - there are lots of ways that the government could pay for higher social rents that actually covered landlords’ costs without increasing borrowing if they needed to… ft. @r_earwaker@DarrenBaxter and @AydinDikerdem https://t.co/1ykOXFiOYY
Notre Dame burned by accident and people around the world donated millions of dollars to restore a building; Palestinian holy sites are being bombed by Israel, and hundreds of civilians are murdered as a result, and no one bats a fucking eye. I feel like I’m going fucking crazy
In December 2020, Xi Jinping set a goal for China to have 1,200 GW of wind and solar generating capacity by 2030
It's the middle of 2024, and the country just hit it. @luzdingyu
Chicago dispatch: Let a Palestinian speak.
Democrats are snatching defeat from the jaws of a unifying convention victory by not letting a single Palestinian-American address the DNC — even with a vetted speech from an elected Democrat supporting Harris.
