If you're perfectly happy with your restlessness, ambitions, distractions, and endless searching, stay away from Siddhartha.
You might finish it and start wondering:
"What if I don't actually need to keep chasing the next thing?"
That's a rather inconvenient question.
@SahilBloom Calm is underrated because it's invisible. Nobody remembers the quiet evenings, they just grow up thinking that's normal. The repair part is the hardest though. How do you build that habit if you didn't grow up with it?
@ShreyaShah22 It went up about an hour ago, so do this one first: "10K steps is a great floor, not a finish line. For desk workers the most skipped one is probably strength, because walking feels like enough. Which of the six do you see people ignore most?
@GergelyOrosz AI can polish your sentences. It can't give you the bad week, the stubborn bug, or the manager who changed your mind. That's the part people actually read for. Write your own story in your own words, even if the grammar wobbles.
@vineerpasam Knowing the legacy system inside out is real job security, until the company decides to rewrite it. The smart ones use that knowledge to lead the migration, not resist it.
@GabbbarSingh Samsung Guru ki battery aaj ke smartphones ko sharma de 😄 Those phones were built for real India, not spec sheets. Kya kisi model ka project name abhi bhi yaad hai?
@SahilBloom Underrated part of this is the date on the calendar. 'Get fit' never got me out of bed. A 10K with my name on the bib did. What was your first side quest?
@GergelyOrosz Flow used to come from wrestling the problem yourself. With agents you're reviewing more and solving less. Maybe the builders still feel it because they're back to having no map. Do you think review work can ever feel like flow?
We were told AI would give engineers their time back. For a lot of on-call folks it's taking their sleep instead. More AI code, more PRs, more 2am alerts. Speed without review doesn't save work. It just moves it to the middle of the night.
One interesting data point from @rootlyhq is how devs are getting paged ~2x as much outside working hours vs a year ago.
The reason?
Most likely ~2x PR frequency, thanks to a lot more PRs and code pushed that are AI-generated / written
During my Narmada journey, I stopped at a small village for tea.
Along with the tea, they offered us some snacks for free.
"We made these at home. Please have some," they said.
Honestly, that small gesture stayed with me.
They didn't know us. We were just strangers passing through their village. Yet, they wanted us to taste something they had made at home.
No big words about kindness. No show-off. Just simple people being generous.
Sometimes, it's these little moments on a journey that stay with you longer than the places you visit.
As I grow older, I'm learning that not every opinion deserves a response, not every judgment needs to be corrected, and not every person needs to be convinced of my worth.
My energy is too precious to spend proving myself. I'd rather spend it living my life.
@SahilBloom In IT, the one we normalize is the 11pm call and the skipped lunch. Nobody questions it because the whole team does it. Normal and healthy aren't the same thing
