And for leadership, SGB and teachers to look inward and do the uncomfortable work of battling their bias. Part of that is reaching out to those learners and teachers who have been hurt, those you think are so different, and listen to them. Hear their story.
DF Malan recently decided to change their name to be more inclusive. Inclusion is about everyone. It’s not selective. It’s about everyone feeling they belong. Here is a chance for the school to say we got it wrong, we are sorry and we can be better WITH you.

In 2018 @sbmalinga31 shared his experience at a school similar to #cornwallhillcollege. It’s time to really listen with humility and deference to the history and presence of hurt. And to what students say they need in order to feel they belong. It’s not hard.
Every year since 2016 this happens #cornwallhillcollege. And schools shudder, promise and then back down because change is difficult. Yet these same schools changed overnight during COVID. It’s really not hard to create a school where all can say “I belong”
