I went to one of the town halls and this attitude was very apparent. They definitely were not interested in feedback on whether it was a good idea, only what we would want to keep or change from AHS.
How much consultation was done before Smith blew apart AHS and completely restructured mental health and addictions in Alberta?
According to her, literally none.

"Iโm just asking everyone, including members of our public service, to accept weโre all in this together, that we want to make sure we have an environment where I can start reducing personal income taxes.โ
Is this a real quote? Like did I eat the onion? WTAF. #abpoli
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says spending needs to remain in check as her government looks to sock away savings into its rainy-day fund.

Statement from the AMA Section of Pediatrics regarding government proposal to restrict medical treatments available to pediatric patients who identify as trans gender
1/The proposed gender identity legislation announced by the provincial government today is an infringement on human rights, including the rights of trans kids and supportive parents who are navigating a difficult journey.
So glad we're making health policy off of something as rock solid as what @ABDanielleSmith views as "an adult decision" rather than on anything so pesky as evidence, compassion, or the professional clinical judgement of experts. This will lead to more harm than it aims to prevent
Gender identity can be a hard thing to talk about, especially when you are involved. But this conversation is extremely important and parental involvement is critical. Kids need to know we love and support them.
My message to all Albertans:
MDs can't direct patients to a specific pharmacy (unless they are the only one that provides a specific service)
Pharmacists cant direct a patient to a certain pharmacy (even if a pharmacist writes an Rx pts don't HAVE to fill it at that pharmacy)
Why are we allowing this
Under a new deal, Manulife Financial Corp. says its coverage of certain prescription drugs will only apply at Loblaw Cos. Ltd. pharmacies.

Quite disappointed in the responses to pharmacy lead clinics. There are reasonable critiques against corporate pharmacies running clinics, but the amount of colleagues who instantly resort to pot shots at pharmacist qualifications is self-defeating and unprofessional. #abpoli
Alberta pharmacists write over 2.2 million prescriptions annually, and 2 million Albertans filled a prescription written by a pharmacist last year. ๐๐๐
These prescriptions contribute to optimizing medical therapy and ensuring continuity of care. #TwitterRx
So Dynalife was floundering and the public system (hospital labs and Alberta Precision Labs) has to step in to carry the deficit and ensure efficiency. Really glad we tanked the superlab to give to Dynalife the contract. The speed of business indeed. #ableg#abpoli
Itโs unacceptable that Albertans are facing constant delays to get a simple test or blood work done.
As of right now, weโve directed Alberta Health Services to make thousands of new community lab appointments available in Calgary to reduce wait times for patients.

Patients accessing these services have to choose between a rapid, in many cases not medically supervised, withdrawal of therapy, or foregoing recovery programs. This needs to change.
More addictions treatment services is obviously a good thing. But is there a requirement for these services to be evidence based? They're not currently, and many ban patients from being evidence based meds (OAT, naltrexone, acamprosate). #ableg https://t.co/JnFbt6d4cX
@RachelNotley Please encourage patients to report this to @CPSA_CA. It appears to be in direct conflict with standards of practice re: charging for uninsured services. "A regulated member must not charge a fee to the patient in advance for โbeing availableโ to render professional services."
Patients should report them to the college.
@CPSA_CA standards of practice seem pretty clear on this - charging for uninsured services, section 6: "A regulated member must not charge a fee to the patient in advance for โbeing availableโ to render professional services." #abpoli
Although paying for uninsured services is permissible, the way they co-mingle uninsured & insured services basically means that people can buy faster access to insured services, which undermines the Canada Health Act.

All of this, but also: what walk in? I needed to see a doctor for a minor condition in Lethbridge and every walk in directed me to emerge for an absolutely not emergent problem. They have no more capacity. #abpoli
A couple of folks replied to my earlier tweet more or less saying "just go to a walk-in". The simple fact is that public health has better outcomes when you have consistent care. Especially when you have chronic/ongoing conditions. FAMILY DOCTORS MATTER. #abhealth#Airdrie
My brain is absolutely fantastic at remember WHERE a fact exists. If you ask me a professional question, I can tell you the answer is in this resource halfway down on the left-hand side. If you ask me what the answer is: ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Any list will always be inappropriately restrictive. Pharmacists practice across a wide array of treatment settings, and what may be completely within the scope of one to prescribe/admin is not within another's. Pharmacists can judge what is inappropriate for their setting.
