Just wanted to say Hello & Welcome new followers 👋🙂
I'm not much of a frequent poster.
Topics post about:
* Covid/Pandemic
* Thoughts: AI risk, philosophy, psychology, sociology
* a poem, sometimes
Mostly in 1. 🇬🇧 2. 🇸🇪 3. 🇪🇸
Currently coding a website. Trying to do it the old fashioned way - finding code other people have written and copying, amalgamating and molding it.
It still feels like my own(!) I put effort into it and I appreciate it. As opposed to just receiving code from an llm.
2/2 despite both @WHO and @Folkhalsomyndigheten denying it vehemently, contrary to evidence, since 2020.
How do we ensure science leads in institutions?
1/2 "It [Ebola] doesn't spread through the air like COVID and influenza" - Sweden's Deputy State Epidemiologist, on the latest outbreak. Remarked almost in passing, as if it was common knowledge: COVID's transmission route changes from droplet to airborne..
Imagine replacing engineers & data people with vibe-gentic AI in companies, governments & defense. It seems very destructive.
One day it seems the code & functionality seems fine, the next it's not.
Creator of C++, Bjarne Stroustrup:
AI-generated code isn't ready — it generates more bugs, more bloat, more security holes, and is nearly impossible to validate
"senior developers are already retiring rather than deal with it"
The problem is that even a small prompt change can shift the entire codebase in unpredictable ways
@philosophymeme0 I was really interested in going the academic path when I was a student of philosophy and psychology. Yet decided against it as it seemed it wouldn't lead to being able to follow your own ideas, but rather just add/critique incrementally on what's already established.
@thekchasiotis Look, 'consciousness' is a very complex topic philosophically. There's a lot of doubt still about that in humans. It would be naive to believe that issue is solvable about AI.
Ethics relates to ppl, animals and society as well not just possibly emerging synthetic species.
(*Sarkasm & satir)
When im #vibecoding as an experienced engineer, things get created relatively quickly (after multiple iterations and dialogue flow). But as projects grow, it becomes much less manageable to update and extend than human written code.
You essentially give up control for speed.
@DeSchuut@vitrupo I think there is a consensus of not losing control to an amoral (or even if on the surface seemingly moral entity) if it means ceding control to something that builds its own capabilities and power.
All the same I appreciate your clarification.
@Graham_dePenros It's impossible to operate society through a chicken-race dynamic when power grows in technology. Extinction and armageddon tech need to be resisted globally.
The question is not 'if', but instead how.
