@SuperDerp3000 @jkfecke I honestly dont understand the fetish with converting WWC from people who have never met WWC. As someone who lives amongst WWC this is going to be a very large task. Many are evangelical Christians who embedded in that world of thought. They literally have their own facts.
@Taniel Ravenstahl is in a gentrifying seat which is where DSA candidates do best. Plus his brother was a hack Mayor of the city. No one will miss Adam Ravenstahl.
@kkondik Cambria County isn't D anymore. Hasn't been for a decade plus. More importantly for Biden, how is he running in the Pittsburgh suburbs- specifically the South and North Hill suburbs in Conor Lamb's seat. Those are going to be very important come Nov.
@agraybee @uneek_ness Problem is shows like The Deuce romanticize an era that never really existed and then folks who have no idea what it was really like latch on.
@A_M_Dolan @agraybee I grew up in NYC during that era. My sisters and I still recount the stores/safe places you could run into from the subway to our house if someone was following you. Good times.
@agraybee@TheMemeMachine4 Its funny to watch all these 20-30 somethings romanticize NYC when it was down on its knees. As someone who came of age in NYC during that era it was not fun. Being mugged 3x b/w 11 and 16 creates a certain cynicism they have never experienced.
@dfsparks @acvalens As someone who came of age in NYC in the 80s, Times Square was dangerous from the 70s to early 90s. I got mugged their as a teenager. I have never liked the mallification of it but pretending it was some wonderful place prior to that is freaking delusional.
@acvalens Were you even a teen or adult in the 70s- early 90s? I hate the Disneyfication of Times Square but romanticizing what it was isn't any better. As someone who came of age in NYC in the early 80s, it was extremely dangerous. I was mugged getting off a bus at the PA. It sucked too.
@weedlewobble@agraybee I love the bougie gentrifiers who were barely alive in '94 criticizing Biden for trying to address crime during the crack epidemic.
@zachdcarter True but changing Brooklyn from a diverse place with lots of blacks and Latinos into a bougie gentrified playground hasn't helped either. Ever wonder what happened to the people who have been displaced?
@nickpwing About how cops used to carry a second gun so they could plant it on suspects they killed. Are they actually worse today or do we just know more because of phone cameras and social media?
@nickpwing I think there are a whole lot of people on Twitter who think that police brutality is new and something that started 10 yrs ago. The Watts and Newark riots started with police brutality. Rodney King's beating was caught on camera 30 yrs ago. I suggest reading Serpico, the book,
