@agraybee @TheMemeMachine4 Its funny to watch all these 20-30 somethings romanticize NYC when it was down on its knees. As someone who came of age in NYC during that era it was not fun. Being mugged 3x b/w 11 and 16 creates a certain cynicism they have never experienced.

@dfsparks @acvalens As someone who came of age in NYC in the 80s, Times Square was dangerous from the 70s to early 90s. I got mugged their as a teenager. I have never liked the mallification of it but pretending it was some wonderful place prior to that is freaking delusional.

@acvalens Were you even a teen or adult in the 70s- early 90s? I hate the Disneyfication of Times Square but romanticizing what it was isn't any better. As someone who came of age in NYC in the early 80s, it was extremely dangerous. I was mugged getting off a bus at the PA. It sucked too.

@nickpwing I think there are a whole lot of people on Twitter who think that police brutality is new and something that started 10 yrs ago. The Watts and Newark riots started with police brutality. Rodney King's beating was caught on camera 30 yrs ago. I suggest reading Serpico, the book,
