London has more fintech unicorns than anywhere in Europe.
80% of UK unicorns were built here.
And yet, finding your cofounder, a VC who actually gets you, and a community that has your back still feels impossible.
That's why we're launching SHIPYARD
the honest answer is probably narrower than most cryptobros admit
crypto doesn't meaningfully change what a "game" is. it priamarily changes the payment and settlement layer underneath it. so the real question is: which game categories have payment rails as a binding constraint?
there could be a few examples:
- RMG/iGaming, where settlement speed, chargebacks, and crossborder friction etc. directly eat margin. this is practically a multibillion market running on rails built for 90s ecommerce (well, most of the "bigger" online casinos use mainly crypto rails today)
- D2C mobile if the app store tax ever cracks. the 30% on IAPs are still nuts if you think about it. stables settle for fractions of a cent. the regulatory and platform pressure is already building (epic, DMA, korea etc). games with high ARPU and direct player relationships are the obvious first movers when this shitshow fully settles
- genuinely (?) open economies.. but this is maybe 0.1% of games. designing a stable open economy is one of the hardest problems in game design and most studios who attempt it underestimate it massively
everything else, current "web2" (i hate this word) infra handles fine. "ownership" and "interoperability" as features players demand is mostly a solution in search of a problem, or simply people don't care enough. today
"web3 games" donโt fail because of bad ideas, they fail because nobody is clear on what problem weโre solving for the player
either players (or your target audience) don't care enough about the problem you're solving, or a preferred solution already exists
At some point, usually in your 20s, you'll notice that the people around you stop believing in themselves. And no matter how hard you try, you can't save them. By all means, do not let it infect your mind. Stay on your path.
