the Greek taverna is one of the most civilised social inventions in human history

hear me out 😩

you arrive, usually with people and the table is in the street or near the sea

the waiter doesn't rush you

he brings water and bread and olives without being asked

you order in the general direction of what you want - more plates arrive than you ordered because the kitchen decided something else was also good today

you eat across two hours

the conversation moves through subjects, nobody checks their phone

at some point - maybe hour 3 - the owner brings 3 small glass of something on the house

not because you asked but because you've been there long enough to be a real customer now

that the Greek taverna figured out - probably 2,000 years ago - is that the purpose of a meal is the experience of being human in a specific place with specific people

the food enables that

it doesn't replace it

modern restaurant culture forgot this

the Greek taverna never did

Hosted on 29-30/01 the informal meeting of the EU Climate Ambassadors Network (#ECAN) in Larnaka in the context of @CY2026EU.

Focused on #COP30 outcomes, as well as the strengthening of EU Climate Diplomacy, in the context of a changing geopolitical context. Also discussed climate risks in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East and the climate–security nexus.

Η Υπουργός Γεωργίας, Αγροτικής Ανάπτυξης & Περιβάλλοντος, δρ @riapan82 βρίσκεται στο Μπελέμ της Βραζιλίας 🇧🇷 συμμετέχοντας στη 30ή Διάσκεψη του ΟΗΕ για την Κλιματική Αλλαγή – #cop30brasil 🌍

Η φετινή Διάσκεψη σηματοδοτεί τη μετάβαση από τον σχεδιασμό στην πλήρη υλοποίηση των δεσμεύσεων της Συμφωνίας των Παρισίων, με έμφαση:
🌱 στη μείωση των παγκόσμιων εκπομπών
⚡ στην επιτάχυνση της πράσινης ενέργειας
🌿 στην προστασία των δασών & της βιοποικιλότητας
🤝 στη δίκαιη μετάβαση, ώστε καμία κοινότητα να μη μείνει πίσω
💰 στην ενίσχυση της χρηματοδότησης για δράσεις κλίματος
🔬 στη διάδοση καθαρών τεχνολογιών
🌾 και στην αναγνώριση του ρόλου των ιθαγενών λαών στη διαχείριση των οικοσυστημάτων.

Στις μέχρι σήμερα συζητήσεις, έχει τονιστεί η ανάγκη όλες οι χώρες να παρουσιάσουν χειροπιαστή πρόοδο μέσω επικαιροποιημένων και πιο φιλόδοξων NDCs 📈.

Η Υπουργός δρ Παναγιώτου συμμετάσχει στις διαπραγματεύσεις εκ μέρους της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (ΕΕ), ως η επικείμενη Προεδρία του Συμβουλίου της ΕΕ, και μαζί με τον Δανό ομόλογό της, ως η απελθείσα Προεδρία του Συμβουλίου της ΕΕ, @cy2026EUsec έχουν αναβαθμισμένο ρόλο στις συζητήσεις με τρίτες χώρες για τα κεντρικά ζητήματα της #COP30, υποστηρίζοντας τη θέση της ΕΕ όπως αυτή αποτυπώνεται στα σχετικά Συμπεράσματα του Συμβουλίου, τα οποία αποτελούν ισορροπημένο και κοινά συμφωνημένο πλαίσιο διαπραγμάτευσης.

Η ΕΕ επιδιώκει:
🔥 πιο φιλόδοξη μείωση εκπομπών
🛡️ ενισχυμένα μέτρα προσαρμογής
💶 ουσιαστικές χρηματοδοτικές δεσμεύσεις
🔌 και έναν καθαρότερο ενεργειακό οδικό χάρτη, πρωτοβουλία που προωθεί και η Βραζιλία.

Στο περιθώριο της #COP30, η Υπουργός θα έχει επαφές με:
📍 τον αρμόδιο Επίτροπο της ΕΕ
📍 τον Υπουργό Περιβάλλοντος της Ισλανδίας
📍 τον Δανό ομόλογό της, για συντονισμό σε ζητήματα της COP30 και της Κυπριακής Προεδρίας της ΕΕ 2026.

🔹Το 2025, το #CyprusAid, με τη συμβολή του Ιδρύματος «Ελπίδα» για Παιδιά με Καρκίνο και Λευχαιμία και της φαρμακευτικής εταιρείας Medochemie, απέστειλε 3 αποστολές ανθρωπιστικής βοήθειας σε είδος προς την #Μπουτσουάνα, συνολικού βάρους άνω των 2 τόνων.

🔹Σε αυτές περιλαμβάνονταν φάρμακα για χημειοθεραπείες, θεραπείες κατά της φυματίωσης, καθώς και άλλα βασικά φαρμακευτικά σκευάσματα.

🔹Οι προετοιμασίες για την αποστολή του 4ου φορτίου φαρμάκων για τη θεραπεία της φυματίωσης βρίσκονται ήδη σε εξέλιξη.

🔹Στις 20 Σεπτεμβρίου πραγματοποιήθηκε στην Μποτσουάνα τελετή κατά την οποία εκφράστηκαν ιδιαίτερες ευχαριστίες και ευγνωμοσύνη για την ανθρωπιστική συνεισφορά 🇨🇾, η οποία ανέδειξε τους στενούς δεσμούς μεταξύ 🇨🇾 και 🇧🇼 και τη θετική επίδραση της βοήθειας της Κύπρου στο τοπικό σύστημα υγείας και στις κοινότητες της 🇧🇼
