Good morning! Have you gotten this excellent Xmas stocking filler yet? The DCU Bake Off for @Barretstown calendar is on sale for €5. It’s jam packed full of great recipes - and every single cent goes to Barretstown. DM us here if you would like a copy!
@MurphyDunne@mmcgrathtd More have inquired about getting it and was told the info on the criteria and how it works can't be given out. So provides can't even decide if they will go on their knees to ask for it. No other advice or options were offered.
@MurphyDunne What staff, we still can't get educators because they prefer to go work for primary schools. The ERO helped some educators but many have already been paid above those rates & are still leaving the sector. We can't pay more if we don't recieve more funding.
@MurphyDunne@rodericogorman@mmcgrathtd@FederationEarly@Toibin1 There are so many in the same boat but he says No one tells him, maybe because they are too busy drowning/treading water to email a dept that only responds to say they recieved tge email & months later recieve the same stock soon and rhetoric as usual. No meaningful engagement!
@noelfchambers @MaryMag86999606 @MurphyDunne@rodericogorman@mmcgrathtd@FederationEarly@Toibin1 It only starts in September! No December payment had been highlighted for years, they had plenty of time to correct it but chose not to. All the issues are actually fairly easily sorted... If they took the time to work with us from the beginning instead of having stand offs now
@MaryMag86999606 @MurphyDunne@rodericogorman@mmcgrathtd@FederationEarly@Toibin1 His experts will report back next September when it is too late for hundreds of services. He will say it is a business decision to close and nothing to do with funding, as he has no evidence there is a funding shortfall. Blah, Blah, Blah
@MurphyDunne @dcediy @rodericogorman@Toibin1 That €7 (backdated to sept) will keep the wolf from the door for this year but the whole thing needs to be looked at badly. There are so many issues with all the schemes & systems, not just CF This is too important to rush it because the ministry is too big for one person
@sharononeill3 @clodaghburke6 @rodericogorman@TheNationalist So sorry to hear this. You must be heart broken making that decision. Such hard work for many years goes into setting up a service & to be forced out like this. It is not like the market is failing or that you made bad business decisions, it's someone else's bad decisions. 💕
@CorkGreens@rodericogorman The Irish gov has been having their knuckles rapped for years by the OECD and the EU because it should be investing 1.3% GDP in childcare to bring it up to EU average. Even with this new PLANNED budget it comes to 0.3% so don't pat yourselves too hard. Providers made up the rest
@RowenaFisher14@sharononeill3@greenparty_ie@rodericogorman Or small services in urban areas that are full but are still not viable. The minister advised don't hire the extra person in the room, the the owner can earn a wage. He doesn't get it the the extra person means better quality, not the box ticking exercise that comes with CF.
@greenparty_ie@rodericogorman I notice you once AGAIN never mentioned the providers here. What about this small rural preschool that are full for years to come but are NOT Viable. We can't exist on fresh air.......
@SinadD4@noelfchambers@greenparty_ie@rodericogorman He keeps taking in big figures so he doesn't have to explain the detail & he can spin it any way he likes. A chain made 30m profit that went out of the county, is that figure big enough, yet chains gained more from the CF he is so proud of. Small/medium services money stays local
@greenparty_ie@rodericogorman Easy to throw out figures but definitely not a true reflection on where that “259m” is allocated. I calculated my loss from last year as €1749!!! The minister has taken money from my service & lined the pockets of others! How can I provide a high quality service to the children?
@EmmaGleeson7@CathTyrrell@greenparty_ie@rodericogorman Parents are not going to be happy as they will have less choice as to where they wnt put their children. Many parents want the small homely type preschools for just the free 3 hours and avail of any extra hours. There are less of those on my area now and parents are not happy
@greenparty_ie@rodericogorman What about ECCE only services that currently have zero cost to parents? They will be non existent in a few years if you don’t start to properly fund them. A lot of parents are not going to be happy with the disappearance of their free preschools
