The airline lost my bag for 72 hours.
They handed me a $50 “courtesy” voucher at the baggage desk and smiled like they’d done me a favor.
I kept the voucher. Then I opened my laptop and used a 1999 international treaty they never mention at check-in.
Total recovered: $1,650.

So, 41 years ago today right now I was in my hotel room at Caesar's Palace going over my notes for this broadcast. We all knew it would probably be a great night for the sport, but no one could have known just how much it would live on as one of the most iconic moments in the sport's long history. These two men added a major piece of what made them legends in the sport. It was an honor to be able to chronicle this with Al Michaels.
A really good and insightful book, artfully researched. I’ve given it to several folks as a gift, and it wears well — a story of the best team you don’t know. @LukeEpplin
"Our Team" came out five years ago. I haven't quite made my peace with that book--I flew a little too close to the sun while writing it and got burned. But I'm pleased that it continues to find new readers. The response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Not gonna lie to ya the question is often asked, why ya keep doing this and I’ll borrow the words from my mentor and lifetime idol Curt Gowdy who called alongside Dick Enberg, the great Al McGuires unlikely 1977 National Championship. Chris Farley, who was deeply committed to his Catholic faith, would carry his favorite prayer with him in his wallet. It was called “The Clown’s Prayer” and this is how it reads,
Dear Lord,
As I stumble through life, help me to create more laughter than tears, dispense more happiness than gloom, and spread more cheer than despair.
Never let me become so blasé, that I fail to see the wonder in the eyes of a child or the twinkle in the eyes of the aged.
Never let me forget my work is to cheer people, make them happy, and make them laugh, make them forget, at least for the moment the unpleasantness in their lives. Never let me acquire success to the point that I discontinue calling on my Creator in the hour of need, and in my final moment, may I hear you whisper, ‘When you made my people smile, you made Me smile.’
