We’re making some changes to the Port Washington Branch schedule in the AM rush starting Monday, November 27.
Some trains previously routed to Penn Station will run to Grand Central.
Please check the TrainTime app or https://t.co/p5HGxX7PUj to see if your options have changed.
@LIRR@JFKairport@LGAairport@NYCTBus Given the atrocious on time record of @lirr take this route at your own peril and run the risk of significant delays and likelihood you miss your flight. I’d rather sit in highway traffic than leave it to chance with @lirr service.
Another morning commute and continued @LIRR ineptitude and wastefulness as yet another empty 12 car express train rumbles on to Penn Station. Alternatively, the Grand Central bound train is already jam packed & only halfway through the local stops. #portwashington#LIRR
@ginasillitti Thank you for your advocacy efforts on our behalf - it’s much appreciated. Were you able to get any assurances from Rob Free on restoring direct GCM service now? Anything they’ll fix now? Surely they can’t wait for another survey round & we shouldn’t have to wait until Mar24.
@LIRR You know this schedule is absurd and is ruining commutes for folks. Dont wait until March 2024 for a change. Fix This Now! #portwashington#lirr @TheLIRRToday @MTA https://t.co/h11z68VhTy
@dschamis@TheLIRRToday@LIRR@LIRR we know and you know that this revised schedule does not make sense. Please adjust the port Washington schedule returning east side access. This is creating a significant inconvenience to riders on this line.
@dschamis@TheLIRRToday@LIRR And just to help visualize absurdity of new schedule, let’s pull up the classic timetable (TrainTime app doesn’t do the idiocy of it justice). Look at these routes, identical xpress 5 mins apart! @LIRR explain the feedback and data you analyzed that resulted in this genius move?
@dschamis@TheLIRRToday@LIRR Fantastic video capturing
nightmare that is the PW-GCM commute 6-8am. One correction: 7:19 train doesn’t stop @ Bayside. The few passengers you see leave GN on xpress is it; no other stops or passengers. @LIRR geniuses also operating that as a 12 car train.
First, my thanks to constituents who care enough to document what’s happening (below) on the LIRR and who want to help set things right. It’s a team effort and I appreciate your help because I meet with LIRR Acting President, Robert Free this week and I’ll be sharing your concerns. While I know we can’t expect perfection, we do need a system that works for our communities, and this clearly is not working. A reliable and affordable commuter rail means less cars on our roads, less congestion, less pollution and less energy consumption. If we believe in those things, then we have to get this right.

@GovKathyHochul Please restore direct #LIRR service to Grand Central from Port Washington during morning rush hours. WE WERE PROMISED EAST SIDE ACCESS-WHY WAS IT TAKEN AWAY?? 936 Signatures on the petition!

@LIRR Terrible day to have “switch issues” after gutting direct PW to GCM trains during peak rush hours through poorly thought out schedule changes. Just added to confusion and growing frustration among PW commuters. Higher commuting costs and worsening service. Good combo.
@LIRR Well, that’s one way to force us PW commuters to stay on the under used 7:19am express, by holding us up for track issues and inducing a missed GN xfer. That first train below is the only train to GCM. “Switch issues”. Hmm.
@dschamis@TheLIRRToday@LIRR Can’t think of anything more ridiculous than these changes unless @LIRR@MTA are actively scheming to direct commuter volume away from GCM following a $12B / 20 year investment… at least intending to punish PW, Plandome, Manhasset communities for some reason.
@sophiabhall1@wcbs880@1010WINS@lirr
LIRR needs to restore service the Grand Central. Your not only inconveniencing all the rider, but your playing with their livelihoods and continue dipping into our pockets. And us riders get nothing in return. Instead of making it easier, you make it worse.
@LIRR Thank you for the response - that all makes sense, but what can't make sense is two trains to Penn within 5 mins of eachother and zero trains to GCT btwn 6-8am.
