Hello! Here is an update on #EcomChat.
Thank you to the hundreds or thousands of people who've chipped in, here on Twitter, over the years!
For info on future events, do reply here, or drop us a note.
And, if you ever want a chat, we are here.
@danbarker and @jamesgurd 🙇🙇♂️
Notorious #EcomChat stalwart @searchrook is in London until Wednesday & looking to meet up with ecommerce, seo, marketing, conversion people.
Reply to this thread if you're around, or @ in suggestions, or dm @danbarker for an intro if you are shy.
This looks useful (a free 'Psychology for Ecommerce' thing).
(Also nice to see @anton_shulke continuing to run these from Ukraine. He's still continuing to distribute donations to cat/dog shelters there - https://t.co/8jcSviasyV)

Thanks to all for #EcomChat today. It started quiet, then hit a huge contentious flurry (a little like... the pandemic).
As we ebb away into the post-ecomchat hour, we thank you all for your input, your wisdom, and your generosity.
Until the first Monday of May, au revoir. 🙇♂️🙇♂️
@ecomchat With Paid Ads many retailers don't know the structural opportunities nor are fully proficient on the levers they have to control investment. Withdrawing poor sellers, cross channel analysis and Feed Optimisation are all tactics which can boost profit.
@sdvinlondon @ecomchat I see the opposite. DTC brands that avoided Amazon in the past are now flocking to the platform. They are five years late to the party.
@sdvinlondon @BlackLabelAdvsr@ecomchat Completely agree. Amazon is not the wonderland that many make it out to be.
The 15% commission is a significant amount, with the impact straight to your bottom line, not revenue.
Would you lower your prices by 15%? Because it's the same thing.
#EcomChat Q2: Post-Pandemic Ecommerce
“Bearing in mind the issues affecting ecommerce over the rest of this year, what are the opportunities for online sellers? Which channels / activities / opportunities should they pay attention to?”
#EcomChat: Summary of Q1
- supply difficulties from China
- overbought stock vs demand now offline retailers are reopen
- less predictable delivery situation
- shift back to offline retail means unpredictable ad competition
- potential for some failure as a result of the above
@ecomchat IMO still some supply difficulties ahead for those sourcing from China as they transition away from "zero covid" + container prices still don't seem to have settled down yet #ecomchat
@ecomchat@danbarker A1 It depends, but for some niches increase offline competition. And for higher end products more ropo behaviour ( ropo = research online, purchase offline ). #ecomchat
@JamesGurd@ecomchat I expect many to have overbought on stock for this year based on 20/21 sales (and the presumption of continuation, not decline), the cost of living issues are going to make that excess stock even worse.
Expect lots of deep discounting later in the year.
