His memory lives on through a wave of Nicholas Breakspear enthusiasm that has swept through his home county of Hertfordshire. At least two schools an an industrial park outside Hemel Hempstead bear his name.
A remarkable legacy.
A first for Clement: A Greek-English edition of the Paedagogus.
This came out with @LuxPatrum a few months back, but a little more here on this new edition of Clement's Paedagogus, a fascinating second-century patristic text.

I have, for my sins, started a substack. My rationale is below, but do have a look if early Christianity, the contemporary relevance of church history, and wider thoughts on church life interest you in any way.

A rival for the Villa of Mysteries, and you’re pretty much guaranteed the entire site to yourself.
I’ve traded my views of Vesuvius back in for the libraries of Rome, looking forward to a final few weeks of research here!
After six weeks in the manic but very enjoyable madness of Rome, it was a joy to slip away to the coast for a few days.
While Pompeii and Herculaneum are always remarkable, a first visit to the Villa Poppea at Oplontis did not disappoint. Remarkable wall paintings.
With particular regard to the topic of the Sabbath, a good reminder of the benefits of church history from D.A. Carson:
“The study of church history dissipates false notions, exposed anachronisms, and adds depth by revealing that the church has always wrestled with these … 1/3
… questions. Our modern options are so often the same as those of earlier but forgotten periods. Although it is not on the same level as Scripture, church history has the salutary effect of promoting humility.” 2/3
The past few days in Rome I have been particularly thankful for the innumerable water fountains scattered throughout the city. (Dunno if you’ve heard but it’s really hot.)
They’re rather inconspicuous and look pretty nice when you do spot them.
We built these water refill points for days like today...
London now has over 4,000 free water refill points across the capital. Find your closest here:

The web of JF's influence extended for many years to Christchurch Durham, where he was a member of the 'Council of Reference' tasked with holding the minister to account.
The scandals that have plagued that church have been quietly brushed under the carpet. It seems the culture
Jonathan Fletcher is guilty of indecent assault - yet it is hard to underestimate how appalling the suffering has been for the victim and his family and how inadequate the public response has been to this verdict from those who purported to care for them. https://t.co/y0tYswkSOa
@danjohnsonhymns Yes perhaps not something I’d say in public, but there have been an enormous number of opportunities in the Durham situation for folk with significant power in this constituency to speak out. They collectively failed on many, many occasions.
@danjohnsonhymns Cultures where loyalty, prestige, status and alliances are prized above Christlike humility, tender care for broken sheep and faithful, costly Christian leadership.
I forgot to mention this in the Easter holiday break, but I’m delighted to have signed a contract to produce a new translation of Clement’s Protrepticus in the Ancient Christian Writers series. It will be the first English translation of the text in well over a century.
@rjl1689 the issues and concerns relate to a 'former leadership', when in reality they themselves are directly implicated in much that I and others have raised.
@rjl1689 And have highlighted failing by those in leadership and by external figures who sought to 1) minimise the issues and 2) shift the blame either wholly onto Tony or away from the leadership completely.
The current leaders have pushed a false narrative that
