Outstanding educator Nicole Schroeder was named as a finalist for the 2024 Iowa Teacher of the Year award. Schroeder is a 10-year elementary educator at Saydel’s Cornell Elementary in Des Moines.
Schroeder is praised for creating a nurturing and caring environment where students feel safe, supported and valued. A parent noted, “Her ability to connect with her students on an emotional level fosters a deep trust and desire to succeed.”

As a new administrator, I really appreciate Mr. Vaughan’s mentorship and his reminder to never forget the little things as leaders. Even if it means staying late to shovel sidewalks, it all makes a difference! (of course we know how to add a little humor and fun into it too 😂).
