We’re asking readers to not engage in any @nytimes platforms tomorrow and stand with us on the digital picket line! Read local news. Listen to public radio. Make something from a cookbook. Break your Wordle streak.
We know you’re occupied with Election Day chaos, so let us help: It’s anti-abortion, not pro-life; pro–abortion rights, not pro-choice; “reelect” doesn’t use a hyphen, and the term you’re looking for to describe US politics is spelled “shitshow.” 🗳️
@GrammarTable French: J'ai perdu ma tortue.
English: I lost my turtle.
I asked a friend in high school to teach me something random in French (I took German), and 20 years later it’s still in my brain.
Today, a cis woman coworker from another department saw me headed into the bathroom. She was headed there as well. She is a churchgoing Christian. She could have easily kept walking, or just washed her hands and left; I had no idea where she was headed when I saw her. +

Happy #BannedBooksWeek! In the spirit of fighting literary censorship, you can help our friends @liberationlit get books behind bars to our incarcerated neighbors in Kansas and Missouri! 📚 Here's how ⬇️

Earth’s climate is giving air fryer. A plague kills thousands daily and bosses still asked folks to risk death for their check. Six people decided a uterus was state property. Gas is higher than Whole Foods almond milk. But your political anger is reserved for trans people?
The people who think trans women somehow cheapen their experience of womanhood are using the same argument opponents of gay marriage used when they said it would cheapen their straight marriage. It didn't. It doesn't. It won't.
