Federal Court Overturns Historic Fluoride Ruling as Trump Admin Fights to Keep Fluoride in the Water
https://t.co/3wZSZuwfmF
On Monday, DRC joined our legislators, disability leaders, and advocates at the California Capitol to rally against the alarming proposed changes to Medi-Cal, In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), and asset limits. We are fast approaching the June 15th deadline, when California legislators will be finalizing their version of the state budget.
Call the Assembly and express your opposition for cuts to Medi-Cal and IHSS! Take action TODAY and call the main contacts below.
Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel, Chair Assembly Budget Committee: 916-319-2046
Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas: 916-319-2029
Governor Newsom boasts these cuts to Medi-Cal and IHSS will save the state an estimated $278.3 million in the 2026-27 budget and $495.6 million ongoing. However these cuts endanger people with disabilities and seniors who risk losing access to essential health care, in-home support, and supplemental security income (SSI). Plus, these estimated "savings" do not account for the high costs of institutional and emergency health care people with disabilities will likely need to resort to because of lost health coverage, home care, and SSI. It is much more humane, cost-saving, and supportive of the disability community to protect these life-saving benefits!

@christopherrufo@GovPressOffice IHSS is IN HOME Supportive Services. So when you are writing about alleged fraud in hospitals or prisons this would not include IHSS.
Hate speech does not exist legally in America. There's ugly speech. There's gross speech. There's evil speech.
And ALL of it is protected by the First Amendment.

During a webinar aimed at school administrators on the Mirabelli decision, a partner at a leading law firm that advises California school districts stated that existing policies and practices regarding staff use of students’ preferred names and pronouns “remain 100% in place.”
The state has long taken the position that failing to use a student’s preferred name and pronouns constitutes unlawful discrimination, and that a student’s asserted identity may be withheld from parents at the student’s request. But the operative court order—upheld by the Supreme Court—expressly prohibits school employees from adopting a different name or pronouns for a child over parental objection or from misleading parents about their child’s identity.
Despite SCOTUS’s clear affirmation of parents’ rights, there is little indication that school districts in California are changing course, instead relying on faulty legal guidance. Taxpayers are the ones paying the legal fees, so officials have little incentive to comply.
To be clear, this is not a final decision on the merits of the case, but it is a very strong indication of how SCOTUS will rule once one of these parental rights cases makes it to the Court.
As background, the district court issued a permanent injunction against the state and certified a class action. The 9th Circuit issued a stay, saying that the state was likely to prevail. Here, SCOTUS tells the 9th Circuit that it was wrong and that the district court had it right.
I've simplified what the opinion says. You can read it for yourself at the link:

🚨 BREAKING: The Supreme Court just handed a historic victory to parents over California's secret gender transition policies today, ruling 6-2 in our case Mirabelli v. Bonta.
DECISION AND REACTIONS: https://t.co/sK0BWtvy7y
California required schools to secretly facilitate children's gender transitions without telling parents. Teachers were forced to use different names and pronouns behind parents' backs. One family only found out their daughter had been transitioning at school after she attempted suicide.
Today the Court said: enough. The justices found that California's secrecy regime likely violates both the First Amendment and the Fourteenth Amendment's protection of parental rights. The Court held that California "cut out the primary protectors of children's best interests: their parents."
What makes this decision groundbreaking: the Court reaffirmed that parents—not the state—have the constitutional right to direct the upbringing of their children and to participate in decisions about their children's mental health. Even Justice Kagan in dissent said she has "no doubt" parents have these rights and that California "could have crossed the constitutional line."
The class-wide injunction blocking California's policies is back in effect for a statewide class of parents. This is a historic just a win for parents and a precedent that puts every secret gender transition policy in America on notice.

This didn’t happen overnight.
After years of AVFCA advocacy, Senator Ben Allen has formally asked CDPH for transparency on how medical exemptions are reviewed, revoked, and enforced in California schools.
This letter reflects long-standing concerns AVFCA has raised about physician oversight, centralized decision-making, and the impact on medically vulnerable students.

Parents now have more voice in Hep B vaccine timing.
The federal advisory committee updated long-standing guidance so that immediate newborn dosing is now focused on higher-risk babies, with others starting at the routine 2-month visit through shared decision-making.
⚠️ This federal change does not automatically change CA policy. AVFCA is monitoring closely.

It’s not that everyone in hindsight is a genius. In fact many were communicating with CDPH all along and other state agencies concerning the ADA and violations to that and other laws protecting civil rights (like us). Wish we would have been asked to contribute to this report.
