👀Connecting your coaching eye to your clinical reasoning!
Observe the leg cycle of the leg closest to the camera on each drill.
Can you see small medium then big elliptical on the right limb and very limited ones on the left?
What does limb movement and synergies say about muscle properties and pelvic structure ?
Does “technique” matter?
Well only if you want to load specific tissues and create protective system tension.
We had a really interesting 10.6 sprinter with repeated right side hamstring strains over the past year join our hamstring workshop. @SSCSantry
💪🏾Isokinetic tests have him really really strong on both limbs.
🔋Emg told a story of right side dominance and good lateral to medial hamstring balance whilst the left side was far more imbalanced with medial hamstrings dominating action that we assumed the lateral would.
🧐When we went on to the track, we saw similar things.
🚩Notably a reluctance to open up into late swing phase, avoiding long lever eccentric stress on the distal hamstrings…. ON THE LEFT LEG!
Well this was noticed across a range of exercises velocities and complexities.
🏃🏾♀️ Drills with speed and locomotion, static fast drills as well as static slow drills.
🧐Movement illuminates structural qualities.
🧐Can you spot the difference in these two leg cycles?
Could it be that the right side is repeatedly hurt due to the deficit in the left side.
After all, if you can’t integrate late swing phase, then you will have poor negative foot speed. You will be able to accelerate…. But all the work will be on the right side the deeper you get into a sprint.
@edumias@SportsmithHQ
Cool case & It happens more often than we think…. In fact some references would quote the hamstring re-injury rate between 5-60% depending on injury severity and location/tissue affected @SportsmithHQ. Can we afford to go blind through the hamstring rehab? #kisoinmotion
⚡️Hamstring EMG during posterior chain exercises! 🔋
🧐Your rehabbing a player, who has progressed well , hit key markers (strength/volume/speed) and is preparing to return to play.
But your EMG during various double and single leg hamstring exercises suggest low long head activation.
Does it matter?

@EatSleepTrain_@speed_works_@SSCSantry@SpringbokTech@SportsmithHQ I cannot wait for the hamstring workshop in Santry!! Strength markers are just part of the complex hamstring rehab puzzle…. I keep seeing players about the return to play cos all the markers look “good” but the LHBF isn’t firing as well as non-injured side….
@CoachKenVick@EatSleepTrain_ Totally agree!!! We talk exercise all day long but the body needs to move well FIRST & FOREMOST @DanPfaff would say “ a distorted pulley would frail any rope”…. If the hips are not moving well, hamstings have got little chance of survival!!!
All rehab , especially hamstring rehab, is an opportunity to increase athleticism and reduce risk factors for injury.

@EatSleepTrain_ & @speed_works_ are coming to Dublin & we’ve teamed up for a day @ the world class facilities in @SSCSantry@sscsportsmed to talk lower limb injuries & speed!! Need to know the rule before you break them

This morning I have been writing for my mentees on hamstrings return to play, nordics and why they fail to solve many hamstring issues. It got me thinking about the wave of uncomfortable people @BooSchex has made recently.
It also reminded me of an old Pfaffism (quote from @PfaffSC)
“Hamstring injuries happen because they fire too early, too late or too long”
The research is clear on what Nordics do , what muscles and functions they support and the areas they do not support.
Soon we will run a workshop to illustrate this and more. Looking forward to more debate, discussion and myth busting in Ireland!

I am joining @EatSleepTrain_ in @sscsportsmed in April for a rehab day!! Only taking a small group to make it relevant & highly interactive!! Book now to avoid disappointment. This is a must-CPD day for those who want to learn more about rehab & Jonas’ speed framework!!!
Acceleration and Lumbo-pelvic control!
What should it look like?
What does it feel like?
What can you do, to coach it?
What can you to train and transfer it to performance?
Join me at West Ham Academy and in Dublin with @edumias@SSCSantry to find out more!

We are coming to @SSCSantry to bring a very cool workshop.
You won’t find @edumias all over the podcasts and workshops but he has been my guy for over 10years.
Back then we worked together to build /rebuild a some of the best sprinters in Europe.
Now a days, when I have puzzles with elite football players he flies over and provides me with wisdom and wizardry.
I am excited to share how we take the BPS model and apply it to hamstring, calf and ACL Rehab.
Limited numbers available so please sign up soon if you’re interested.
Have been very impressed with Cathal Forde any time I've seen him the past year.
Has a serious engine to go with the skills to play 10, 12 or 13.

Final thought- we didn’t experience PFjt pain during the rehab despite undergoing a Patella tendon graph. Was it the fact, we normalised the VL:VMO ratio very early on in the rehab that created a healthier “pulley system” around the Patella? Keep the questions coming! 5/5
I have received a few questions about sEMG (not to confuse with EMS or electro-muscle stimulation). I have attached a couple of images which will hopefully explain the point behind what we called optimised rehabilitation with sEMG. 1/5
"Post-ACL reconstruction, one of the biggest challenges is the significant quadriceps inhibition. With sEMG, we could measure how much muscle activation we were getting from certain exercises versus others; this was very valuable"

sEMG gave us the visual feedback for the player to see + the objectivity for me to prove we were targeting what I WANTED to target and not what I THOUGHT I was targeting. 4/5
