My former headmaster, Dr. Peregrine Kibuuka (may he continue to rest in peace), often reminded us:
"You may commit an offence as a group but, when I send you home, there comes a moment when you step out of the taxi and walk that lonely road by yourself".
It was his way of teaching us that while actions may be taken collectively, consequences are ultimately borne individually. The crowd may share the decision, but accountability always finds your doorstep alone.
I didn't know Sydney Gongodyo personally, but I know what it means to watch a young man pour everything into something he loves. With all I have seen here over the last few days, and funeral proceedings on @NBSportUg, Sydney gave everything to rugby, to his family, to his motherland.
And now he is buried at just 27! We must do better than this. As a society. As neighbours. As human beings.
Rest in peace, Sydney. Justice must follow you home.
My condolences to his family, our @nextradio_ug partners at @piratesrugbyUG, and the entire @UgandaRugby fraternity.
We have buried @GongodyoSidney Now we demand justice.
Some of his killers are still out there. The hooligans who set upon my brother on 5th June 2026 and took his life in a cowardly mob attack are walking free. That ends now.
We are not asking for revenge. We are asking for the LAW to do its job. In public. In open court. Where all of Uganda can watch.
We have launched a petition demanding a public mobile court trial at the very scene of the crime for every single person involved in Sydney's murder. Sign it. Share it. Make noise.

To @UgandaPolice arrest all the perpetrators. To @DPP_Uganda prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law and seek the maximum penalty. To @Educ_SportsUg@NCSUganda@UgandaRugby your voices are needed RIGHT NOW!
Do not call it mob justice. There is no justice in what they did. Calling it justice is an insult to the word. This was MURDER. Treat it as such.
Sydney was a son, a father, a teammate, a rugby star and a future Captain of this Nation. He deserved to live. His family deserves justice. Uganda deserves better.
Sign. Share. Do not let this fade. 🙏🏾

Happy Heroes Day to me!
I have come from very far! Tuvudde wala!
FYI: The lad in the centre is yours truly, in St. Mukasa Preparatory Seminary, P.7 in 1992.
Now you know why I fear poverty!
The law was passed allowing mobile Courts to sit near the people where crimes were committed. It didn’t take long for a precedent to be set when Okello faced a public trial. Mob Injustice orchestrated by boda boda people, mostly who use it to hide real thieves, is abhorrent. We ask the @ODPPUGANDA as well as the @JudiciaryUG to follow suit and have Mr. Obed tried publicly without wasting taxpayers money. OKELLO’s trial spent less than 3 weeks, this one needs one week as evidence is available and overwhelming.
Btw @NBSportUg , @ErnestAkor and the entire NBS Sport team we see the good work you guys have done in terms of media and PR since the sudden fall of one of the Sport’s Icon in the country.
Credit where due 👏
Ssemakadde blames state impunity for ‘senseless’ mob killing of rugby star Sydney Gongodyo
Says rising levels of state-backed violence, a decaying judiciary, and a glaring deficit in civic education have created fertile ground for citizens to take the law into their own hands.
