The 28th Commemoration of the Jaffna chemmani Massacre was held yesterday .

Tributes were paid to Chundikuli ladies College student Krishanthi Kumaraswamy who was raped and murdered by the Sri Lankan army in #chemmani area.

Tributes were also paid to those killed and buried at Chemmani, including three others ( krishanthi family members) who were killed along with #Krishanthi.

The "Vananka Mann" was a humanitarian aid ship that departed from London in early 2009, during the final months of the genocide. Organized by Tamil diaspora and international humanitarians, the ship carried around 884 tonnes of food, medicine, and relief supplies destined for the besieged Tamil civilian population in the Vanni region.

Despite a peaceful mission and international backing, it was intercepted and blocked by Sri Lankan naval forces, preventing the aid from reaching those in need.

In a parallel event 16 years later, 'Madleen' an aid ship bound for Gaza, also called the freedom flotilla, was intercepted by Israeli forces, detaining global climate activist Greta Thunberg and others on board.
