Tonight we served 450 chicken tamales homemade by Silvia Moreno in honor of her son Duvi’s birthday. He passed away at only 18 years old in 2020.

“As a mom I'm always gonna be sad on his birthday. Doing this makes my pain less. Instead of just crying, I'm doing something good that he wanted. It's not just me it's all of my family,” says Silvia. “When he was around 11 years old, he asked me to cook 200 tamales and give them away to the homeless people and that's what I did back then. People were so happy to have some fresh tamales. I have been doing tamales for two years now, to honor my son's memory.”
