It could use some more work but I won’t have time for a while, and I’m already finding it useful.
New w/ @AISecurityInst & @UniofOxford:
Frontier AI can now out-persuade expert humans in conversation - incl. world-champ debaters and professional canvassers.
This held even when humans chose their topics, prepared in advance, and competed for £1,000 prizes 🧵
@CK88X@MelindaBChu1@deanwball So you're saying they should have made specific proposals like the ones at https://t.co/HocRh04MSM ? That does seem like it would have been helpful.
Humanity, created by God in all its grandeur, is today facing a pivotal choice: either to construct a new Tower of Babel or to build the city in which God and humanity dwell together. In Jesus Christ, this humanity in its grandeur becomes the Way, the Truth and the Life, opening the path for each of us to grow toward fullness. #MagnificaHumanitas

'A catastrophic harm may well already be “lights out” for Anthropic...so there is little incentive to avoid them, if doing so entails real costs in the present day.'
I'm pretty confused by that claim. Typically companies have a strong incentive to avoid crashing and burning. Is your point that their incentive to avoid a $5T harm isn't much more than to avoid a $800B harm? If so that seems like a reasonable argument, but it's not how that sentence reads to me.

@status_effects@AlecRad@DavidDuvenaud Congrats and thank you! I expect that we can learn a lot from this about the limits of LLM cognition. I've been looking forward to it coming out since I first heard about it 👏
@MaskedTorah@TheZvi In the interest of modeling good behavior for the industry and hopefully inspiring a race to the top, Anthropic should leave enough time for thorough assessment rather than doing it under enough time pressure that the authors feel rushed.
I may be preaching to the choir tho 😁
